a serious-looking kim hyuncheol stares at huang alice. they’re sitting in his office, after the trainee has been called there upon arriving for her daily schedule.
“do you know why you’re here, alice?” he asks.
contrary to the popular belief, kim hyuncheol hates to do this. he hates having trainees come to his office to scold them or punish them. he can appear very emotionless and severe but it’s to protect himself from breaking down along with the trainees every time he needs to discipline them. each and every one of them are precious to him. of course, that doesn’t mean he will let any type of behavior slide. the new generation needs to be held up to even higher standards than the previous one.
“maybe you drank too much to remember. let me jog your memory. the company dinner. you sat at haru’s table. ring a bell?” he gives her some time to digest the information. “there’s a difference between a casual dinner and a college party. this was still a professional environment and your actions matter. yours, alice, were unacceptable. going around sitting on male trainees’ laps, in front of senior idols no less. do i really need to tell you they were shocked by what they saw?”
he pauses, takes a sip of coffee. “i believe this is your first offense. while it’s no excuse, let’s assume the alcohol clouded your judgement. you should know we will monitor your training closely from now on. be on your guard and display a pristine behavior if you don’t want to be in this office again, this time for something worse than a serious warning.” he looks at her for a moment, hoping she understands what he means.
“since you have deeply embarrassed us and the members of haru, a manager will bring you to their practice room so you can apologize to them for your behavior. please know better next time, alice. you show great promise, but i can only give so many passes. you may leave now, the manager is waiting outside.”
she should’ve expected this. after the mess of the company dinner she should’ve known they’d never let it slide. waking up the morning after the dinner with blurred memories of playing musical chairs with the boys laps, and a kiss she’d like to forget, she’d frankly been pretty ashamed of herself. she’d hoped it would go unnoticed, but of course, she never gets lucky.
she sits with her head hung, and it’s sincere. she’s never played up like that before, and she wishes she could shunt the blame onto someone else, or some external situation, but she can’t… it’s all on her, and she feels like poop for disappointing hyuncheol. hearing her actions said out loud like that makes her feel sick, the way it’s being framed like she’s some sort of promiscuous girl feels so wrong. those boys are her friends, and she’s always been affectionate with her friends. she should’ve known how it would look though, even in her drunken state.
her stomach churns at the thought of being monitored, like she’s a problem child who’s going to slip up and do something dumb again as soon as she isn’t being watched. she can’t speak, even though she wouldn’t know what to say if she could. her mouth’s dry, and her throat feels like there’s a lump of cotton wool blocking it.
it takes her a moment to swallow the lump down and practically whisper “i apologise for my actions.” before standing and leaving the office to meet the manager outside.
her next apology is going to feel even worse, she realises as she’s taken to haru’s practise room and stands with her head hung before them. “i apologise for my actions at the company dinner. it was unprofessional of me to act the way i did, and i hope this won’t make you feel negatively towards me in the future. i promise to learn from this and never make the same mistake again. i hope you’ll accept my apology.”
