“ ho ho ho! didn't think i'd forget you, did ya? ” dew cheers, lugging an even heavier sack than usual over his shoulder. he sets it down, beginning to dig through it even as he continues to yap away. “ y'know, jamke, yer kinda a total pain to think up gifts for! you'd think a prince who don't care for fancy baubles would be easy, but noooo, how am i s'posed to give someone who don't like material things anything?! oh wait, a-ha! there it is! ” ( 1/2 )
the thief's demeanor changes from sour to upbeat as he fishes out a crossbow. “ ta-daaa! i looked 'round all the blacksmiths i could fer a cool bow you wouldn't have yet, and feast yer eyes on this! a bow y'can shoot from up close! betcha never seen anything like it! ” ( 2/2 )
Jamke would be the first to admit that he and his brothers have never really been big on giving gifts. Maybe when his mother had still been around, back when they’d been young. Maybe then they’d bothered with the pretense of caring for each other. But it’s been ages since he’s received a kind gesture from either one of them now, even before they’d both been...lost. Maybe some “friendly advice” from brother to brother, or a cheap axe as a not-so-subtle dig at his choice of weapon. Relationships that could be called lukewarm at best had only fractured further with time, right up until they found themselves standing on opposite sides of the same fight.
Dew doesn’t know it, but aside from his father, Dew is likely the first person he’s received a gift from in a very, very long time.
“I--thank you.” He hasn’t thought of anything to give anyone, but now it looks like he should. It might seem like Dew hands out weapons like candy sometimes, but he’d gone through the trouble of looking for something Jamke specifically would like.
“It’s--nice.” Should he smile? Nod his head? He’s still nonplussed enough from the whole receiving a gift thing that he has no idea what his face is doing, but he should probably at least try to show that he’s happy.
“...You’re right, I’ve never used a bow like this before. Being able to attack from close up without having to switch weapons will be useful.” There, clear and concise. “I appreciate the trouble you went through to find it.”
