Lets get started
Being overweight or having a flabby belly is not something to be ashamed of, rather it should be a motivating factor to work towards achieving something you’ve always dreamt of, or unfortunately, if you’re at a point of thinking that it’s impossible, you need to think again.
Being a medical student myself, I spent majority of my time sitting in a chair with my books. I’ve cherished the long hours I’ve spent with them but due to this I gained a lot of weight. Not losing hope was the most important thing that helped me. I started working on my weight 3 years ago and with fluctuating success, now after three years, my weight is stable with a BMR on a higher side.
The most important thing is PATIENCE. You can achieve anything with hard work and perseverance.
First of all, we have to understand that what comprises your weight. It consists of a cumulative sum of your muscles, your organs, skin, subcutaneous connective tissue, total body water AND your fat. Muscles and fat make the most of your modifiable weight.
The ideal scenario is more muscle and less fat.
When you exercise properly and simultaneously you’re eating good healthy meals throughout your day, you lose your body fat and gain muscles so your NET weight loss is minimal that is why the reading on your weight scale is not a reliable indicator of losing weight! Yes, it is a good indicator when you want to sustain it.
So how should you quantify losing weight? By measuring your waist, thigh and arm circumference. When you lose body fat, you tone down your body and hence you lose those ‘extra inches’.
What’s the ideal time to measure your weight? In the morning when you wake up, because at that time the hormones that help you grow are at peak levels. You’ll get the most reliable reading then. Variation of 1 - 1.5 kgs throughout the day is normal and that is because of the food you eat, the water you drink and your internal metabolism.
I’ll be posting regularly to give you guys useful information and tips (my next post will be an explanation of BMI and BMR) about losing your body fat. I’ll also try to post healthy recipes, ingredients and activities that you can integrate in your daily routine to make it more healthy and fresh.
Stay tuned!
