Love: A decision or a feeling?
All of you have ever experienced both loving and being loved. There have been many opinions about love. Some say it’s a feeling. Some say it’s a process in the brain. Some don’t even know. Some say love is not to be thought, it’s to be felt. And there could be many more of it.
Someone told me that love is a decision. He didn’t agree that love is a feeling, and other silly opinions. On the other side, I agree with him. Love isNOT just a feeling. In fact, the feelings are just side effects. But on the other side, I couldn’t understand what he meant with “decision”. I mean, come on! When was the last time we decide to love? Never! Right?
Did your parents decide to love you? No! They just loved you. Does a dog decide to love the puppy? You gotta be kidding me if you say “yes”. Animals don’t decide. Unlike humans, they can’t understand what decision is. So the answer is “No”. They don’t decide. They just love.
And why is that? It is simply because God is Love! And with this, Love created us, human beings. Love created animals, the plants. It created a world where we can live together in. Haven’t you realized it? Why did It do all those things?
The decision is in the bond. You make decision whether you agree to be bound with your special someone or not. Marriage, that’s decision. Engagement, that’s decision. Being a priest, which means you decide not to marry, that’s also a decision!
I don’t really know what love is. But for me, “Love” is just a single entity, separated from anything else so that nothing can describe it. Instead, it describes itself in its own way that we humans can’t understand.
