An Early Morning Walk
I wish I had a beautiful picture of my walk yesterday morning, but my camera takes lousy pictures in the dark. Rather than asking my son to get up early to take me to a high school 3 ½ miles from home, I decided to walk for the second day in a row. I forgot how much I love to walk in the crisp, cold of an early morning. Okay, it was 6:30 when I left, but it was dark.
My route is missing a sidewalk along a pretty dangerous area that climbs up a hill, but I kept a light on and just paid attention. It was a brick 34 degrees, but it was beautiful. The sunrise was pretty. The bonus of the extra walking is that I finally put together the story for a new speech. I find that practicing while walking is great. It forces me to remember it more easily.
By the time I reached the school for my first debate judging ballot, I was wide awake, energized and ready to sit pay attention. I grabbed some eggs and gravy and a banana before my round, talked to friends and off to judge. The debate topic is The Federal Government Should Substantially Increase the Exploration and/or Development of Oceans. I am still amazed that anything can result in nuclear war according to high school students, but... I am also amazed that the use of laptops in rounds has almost completely eliminated the use of boxes and boxes of paper evidence. Oh yes, and even this 56 year old woman flows the debate rounds on a laptop!
Okay, I admit, that by 6 p.m. at the end of the day, it was bitterly cold. At 16 degrees, even I am not brave enough to walk for long. I walked a half a mile and met my son. We did watch the gorgeous sunset.
