Shin Maeng is a Korean-American artist I recently discovered, who creates marvelous work. Some of it is in collaboration with his wife Sarah Shin, who is a poet and writer. Together they use the moniker “Shin Happens.”     :-)

Shin resides in St. Andrews Scotland. He grew up in Bridgewater, NJ, New Haven, CT and Cambridge, MA. He is married to Sarah and has a wee lass. Shin loves to create on his iPad and also loves to get his hands dirty. He has a Masters of Urban Leadership from GCTS Boston. Cᴏᴍᴍᴜɴɪᴛʏ Sᴇʀᴠɪᴄᴇ ⇝ Jιнye αɴd Hyυɴɢѕeoĸ

         Jihye wakes up to her alarm, grumbling slightly as she rolls over in bed to turn the rather annoying device off. She curls her small hands into delicate fists, rubbing at her eyes gently as she yawns. She's sleepily staring up at the ceiling when she remembers why she woke up so early, and she grins brightly, sitting up and sliding out of bed. She makes her way into the bathroom, turning on the shower, a little bounce to her step. 

          She steps from the shower with a puff of steam, drying her hair first and then her body, padding barefoot back to her room. She smiles as she opens her drawers, pulling a pair of distressed jeans and a loose, over-sized tee from their confines. After tugging on her undergarments, she gets dressed and pads off to the kitchen, tiptoeing up to reach her favorite brand of cereal, tugging it down from the high shelf to make herself a bowl. 

          Of course, she remembers to check the time every so often to make sure she wasn't running late, legs swung over the arm rest of the sofa as she eats, watching the morning cartoons. Once finished, she sets her bowl in the sink and washes it out before heading back to the bathroom, brushing her teeth and doing her hair. Soon enough, Jihye's all ready for the day, and she smiles to herself as she slips her feet into a pair of old black combat boots. A moment later, she's leaving her apartment with her bag (which is packed full of snacks, water bottles, and gardening gloves and tools) swung over her shoulders, giving Bear's head a gentle peck, and then she's on her way. 

          She arrives in no time, looking around the other volunteers with a shy smile, tucking a dark curl that had escaped her messy topknot behind her ear. Everyone looked happy and ready to work, as was she, and she swings her bag around to tug her gardening gloves and tools from their pockets. With a quiet smile, she dons the gloves as she listens to the director of the program speak, nodding along gently. For some reason, Jihye had a good feeling about today.

Meeting Up || Jihye + Lucian

The brunette tucks a curl behind her ear as she walks down the sidewalk to the cafe, tugging slightly at the hem of her t-shirt. She runs a hand over her bangs as she nears the small shop, her other hand's delicate fingers curling around the strap of her purse. She would be meeting up with Lucian today, a nice enough boy, but she didn't know him all too well just yet. Jihye had one class in common with him, and it was one of her writing classes. The two hadn't talked much until a couple of days ago, when they had met in the university's library. 

Now, Jihye was on her way to meet up with a possible new friend, and she was both nervous and excited. She slowly pushes open the door of the cafe, smiling a little as the bells over the door jingle in greeting, relaxing slightly at the familiar smell of coffee. Her large eyes wander for the boy but she can't seem to find him, so she decides to claim a corner booth with a good view of the front door and wait. She fidgets idly with her phone, mind wandering as she people-watches. Her head lifts from her palm at the sound of the bells jingling above the door, her dark, doe-like eyes flickering towards the sound expectantly.

Things in Common || Jihye + Skylar

Jihye yawns softly as pulls a pair of destroyed skinny jeans up her thin legs, tugging up the zipper and sliding the button into the eyelet before sliding a plain white tee over her head, making sure the shirt fell over her petite curves perfectly. She dons a too-big, gray flannel button down over her outfit and grabs her purse, glancing around her bedroom to make sure she wasn't missing anything. Today was her first photo shoot for Modern Times, and she was both excited and terrified. As she makes her way to her new work place, she stops to buy herself an iced vanilla latte, rosy lips wrapping around the long, black straw and sipping daintily as she walks. 

When she finally enters the building, she smiles happily to herself, ecstatic to have been employed by one of her favorite magazine companies. She follows the directions she had been given earlier to reach her dressing room, stepping into the room and looking around in awe. This was her very own dressing room, and it was so nice! She wanders around the room and explores before the stylists knock softly and then enter, ushering Jihye to the chair waiting in front of the mirrors and using the pedal to boost her up. Jihye relaxes and lets the stylists do their jobs, fidgeting nervously with the front of her tunic.

Photoshoot || Jihye + Seungjun

Jihye's eyes flutter closed as she listens quietly to the stylist's chattering, taking a deep, calming breath. She could do this, nothing was going to go wrong. She needed to learn to get used to meeting new people if she was going to succeed in this business. Once she's finally finished getting her makeup done, she looks at her reflection in the mirror, her jaw dropping slightly as she takes in the smoky eye makeup accentuating her big, dark eyes and the dark red lip tint, making her lips looks fuller, her dark curls pulled up pinto a retro-y topknot. The stylists giggle at her surprise and rush her to get dressed, handing her an outfit for her to change into. She looks over the clothes as she dresses herself, eyes widening at how.. Well, dark they looked. Not that she had a problem with darker clothing-- She was just used to modeling bright, colorful things rather than dark, neutral-toned things.

They put her in a dark blue, long sleeve, a-line dress and black tights, helping to slide shiny black heels onto her tiny feet before ushering her out of the trailer-turned-dressing room. She makes her way down the steps and wanders across the asphalt of the parking lot before entering the antique-looking diner. The petite brunette greets the photographer and the rest of the team with a shy smile and a bow, the stylists fixing her hair before allowing her to wander around and explore. She can't help but smile as she wanders the area of the set, admiring all of the vintage props just waiting to be used. She picks up a menu and flips through it slowly, innocently oblivious to the entrance of the other model.

Trouble || Jihye + Jackson

Jihye tugs her shorts up her legs quietly, not in the mood for humming to herself this morning. She had gotten an uneasy feeling in her gut earlier, as she was showering, but she figured she was just being silly. What was there to be worried about? She wouldn't even be out for that long; she'd go and get her favorite coffee drink and then she would hit up a few stores, and then come home. Nothing to be worried about. She sighs and shakes her head at herself, furrowing her eyebrows as she tugs a plain, gray, v-neck tee over her head, puffing her cheeks as she pads to the bathroom to finish getting ready, towel drying her hair as she walks.

After she's all ready for the day, she slides her feet into her white low-tops, grabbing her purse and taking her phone from it's charger, making sure her keys are placed safely into her bag before locking her door and leaving her apartment. She walks to her favorite coffee shop, the one right down the road from her apartment building, and finds that the uneasy knot in her stomach still hasn't lessened. She orders her usual, a medium chocolate chip frappe, before setting off towards the mall, admiring the weather. It was a cloudy, humid day, perfect for staying in and snuggling up with a good book. But, she really needed to upgrade her wardrobe, and that was why she was making her way down the street, hoping she could get to the store and back before it rained.

Eventually, she reaches the store she had been planning on shopping at, stepping through the widely opened glass doors, into the inviting atmosphere of one of her favorite shops. She starts to browse immediately, giving a little smile and a shake of her head to a saleslady who approaches her, asking if she needed anything. The brunette finds a few things and folds them over her arm, sipping her coffee absentmindedly, but the feeling in her gut had never eased. If only she knew what she had gotten herself into.

Cloudy Days -- Open Para

Jihye sighs and sits down, playing idly with the straw of her frappe, face bored and eyes sad. She lets her deep brown gaze sweep across the park, tucking a jet black curl behind her ear as a warm wind puffs through the trees. Today was a beautiful day to Jihye, she likes when the skies were cloudy and everything was calm. It looked as though it might storm, but she doesn't mind. She leans back against the glossy wood of the bench, a small smile curling up the corners of her lips as she watches the handful of people who had the same mindset as her, and were enjoying the warm day. 

Her thoughts start to wander and before long she's oblivious to everything else around her, including the person who sits on the bench next to her. She's only shaken from her thoughts as she hears a throat clear, and she looks up in surprise to find someone beside her. Her cheeks darken as she quickly looks away, a little embarrassed at her surprise, quickly wrapping her soft, pinkish lips around the straw and sipping quietly again.
