The experiment knew nothing about his former life but recalled the girl mentioning that her birthday was during White Day once. Apparently, such milestones were important to people even if he couldn’t comprehend why celebrating. Even so, keeping her morale was their best interest. Asking her to follow him, Izuru led the girl to a safe zone—a flower field. On the ground, there was a box with supplies he got overnight, new clothes and a few trinkets she might enjoy.
When Izuru said they were going somewhere, she was a bit surprised as they tended to avoid safe zones. Since these areas tended to be more in the territory of the Future Foundation and government that were fighting against Despair. It was something that meant possible putting himself in a vulnerable position, but for her birthday he took her here.
How long has it been since she’s seen flowers growing like this, untouched or marred by greedy hands? Never had she considered flowers to be much of a point of interest just something nice and pretty to smell. Yet seeing it now almost made her want to cry in joy that such a beautiful thing still existed after everything she’s seen.
Watching him set up a box her eyes widen as he showed he had prepared, maybe even over prepared gifts. Did he end up staying up all night collecting these? As she opened the box, she saw new clothing and supplies. Like actually lovely and well cared for clothing that instead of just being practical was clearly of her enjoyment.
“This... This is a great gift just taking me here was amazing enough, but you even got me these?” She questioned, there was an evident fondness in her voice as she picked up a new hoodie. It felt so soft and even clean that she knows he probably had to look really hard and it’s possible he even washed it off before packing it.
There were many little trinkets and knickknacks like some small game-themed items. The more Chiaki looked at her gift, the more her heart swelled at the very kindness of it.
Without even realizing it tears welled up in her eyes, blurring her vision before her hand quickly tries to wipe them away. She was... Happy. So happy that he actually remembered her birthday and not just remembered but took the time to actually get her something. Despite thinking it was odd and unnecessary he decided against his own logic to do this, and she couldn’t stop the tears.
“Thank you, this is a wonderful gift.” She whispers, knowing he could hear her and know these tears weren’t of sorrow but of joy. This wasn’t a small gesture, and she would cherish every single one of these, as the wind blew and the flowers scent wafted through the air. Chiaki felt whole again, she needed to return the gesture to him one day...
