ok yay
here's a little 9x11 coda that blindsided me (i was working on something completely different. alas.)
Tommy's out of coffee creamer, and since nothing has gone right in his life in the last year and a half or so, when he stops for coffee on his way to the grocery store his favourite coffee shop is closed. He sighs when he notices, whispers a quiet curse, and ends up at the next closest one, a few blocks over, that he knows has worse coffee.
And the cherry on top of his bad day sundae comes in the form of Evan stepping out of the shitty coffee shop, hands full of coffee carriers. Their eyes lock instantly, and any hope of Tommy ducking away before Evan sees him is dashed.
"Tommy," Evan breathes.
Tommy can't seem to control his limbs, and he does a small, shy little wave that he immediately regrets. Clearing his throat, he offers a, "Hey, Evan. How are you?" that he hopes sounds steadier to Evan than it does to himself.
"Oh, good! Good. How are you?"
'Missing you like how I'd miss a limb' sounds a little melodramatic, so Tommy settles on "Good." He watches Evan fidget with the coffee carriers and says, "Seems like you're headed to work? I don't want to keep you —"
"Uh, no, actually, they're for my stitch and bitch club. It's a knitting thing," he clarifies at Tommy's questioning noise. "They won me at the charity bachelor auction." That's one of the things Tommy misses most about Evan, the way he can talk about the crazy shit he gets up to like it's mundane. "We're having a rare morning meeting because I have to babysit Jee and Nash tonight, so it's my responsibility to bring the coffee," Evan adds with a shy grin.
Looking down at the coffee carriers, he rushes out, "Did you want to come? If you're free, I mean. I've, uh, I've told them a lot about you, and they made me promise to bring you if we ever talked — uh — next time I saw you." He looks up at Tommy through his lashes, and Tommy's heart skips a beat.
Evan's talked about him? Evan's brought him up to absolute strangers in a way that makes them want to meet Tommy? Tommy watches as a flush spreads over Evan's cheeks, and then realizes it might be good if he says something instead of just staring at Evan. "Yeah, actually. My grandma taught me how to knit when I was a kid, but —" but it wasn't manly enough, so my dad made me stop, he doesn't say, "— but it's been a while, I've been meaning to try again."
A slow smile spreads over Evan's face. "Yeah? They're uh, a bit of a handful. Might be a lot to deal with. Kinda lean heavy on the 'bitch' part of 'stitch and bitch'."
"Sounds like I'll definitely need my coffee, then. But I might fit right in. With the bitching, I mean." Baby steps towards an apology, but the thought of talking it out in public makes Tommy's skin crawl. "Wanna come back in with me while I grab a drink? You can tell me about what you've been knitting."
He steps over to open the door, and Evan walks in with a grin.

“What?” “You have the glow about you. The sex glow.” “The what?” Rose blows him a raspberry. “You know. Like you got fucked really good recently and it lingered. Was it the first time or is this, like, a recurring thing? Oh, my God, Shane Hollander. Do you have a roster?” “I do not have a roster,” he protests, “and I do not have the sex glow.” In which Shane Hollander, for once in his life, gossips.

Shane Hollander did not gossip. It wasn't that he had no desire to— far from it, in fact. He enjoyed processing verbally, would often ramble to himself in the privacy of his Montreal home and could only imagine how gratifying telling everything to someone else would be. But, the things he wanted to gossip about all tended to center around one very big, very scandalous secret. (Read: one very big, very scandalous Russian) Luckily for Shane Hollander, there was exactly one person in his life he knew he could trust with big, scandalous secrets. Or: Shane tells Rose about him and Ilya and they have the queen out they both deserve
