From the outside, Shadow seemed to gasp and clutch a hand to his chest over nothing, red eyes glowing slightly brighter.
Inside, though, it felt like something deep inside him had literally been lit aflame. What was once a coil of simple energy became a coil of fire, spreading warmth throughout his body with every spin. Not painfully so - he could even call it pleasantly familiar - but still not something Shadow was used to. It was almost comparable to his time spent holding a shard of the Sol Emerald.
Only... He wasn't anywhere near it.
After a few more shallow breaths, he eventually became accustomed enough to the heat to slowly lower his hand. Fortunately, his inhibitor rings still seemed able to contain this new energy. That meant it was close enough to Chaos energy, but it still wasn't his.
Where had it come from...?
