I was rewatching season one, and it’s really funny that (other than leaving Stan and getting bell bottoms for a 1967-1969 era hippie in 1971 yes I know that’s way too specific but these are high schoolers things that were cool with highschool/college students when they were in middle school wouldn’t necessarily be as cool to them 3/4 years later), Carla’s only known character traits are that she likes music/dancing, and that from around ages 15-18, she was pretty into the 50s. She would go to the Juke Joint with Stan and they’d do stereotypical 1950s dances together, and when we see her in Dreamscapers, she’s wearing a big poodle skirt. The 50’s stuff she’s referencing would have been like, 12-16 years ago, so I guess it’s like a teen in 2010 being really into the 90s.
Also, in the first episode we see her, we know she wears hot pants (which get switched out for bell bottoms when she starts dating Thistledown), which were ESPECIALLY popular in 1971, even though the episode seemingly associates them with the 50s? It’s unclear. BUT! They were specifically MOST popular as a microtrend in 1971, having become kind of a shorthand for ‘prostitute outfit’ in film by the late 70s (according to Wikipedia), but they were super popular in 1970 and 1971. Which means that Carla SUPER would have been dress coded if she tried to wear those to school, lol.
Uuuuuhhhhh, in the Catverse, does she ever get back into dancing or music?
All of the outfits we see Carla in.
OOooh thats so interesting! Girls in the past living in the past lol. It says a lot about her in the very, very few moments she's brought up.
As for your question, yes Carla does get back into dancing. It wasn't a main concern for her in the fic, as her life was going through some major changes, and then there was the memory wiping and Bill and then Stan, but once things settle and she has more of a disposable income, she does start getting back into her old hobbies, things she used to really love then pushed away to appear more 'grown up' and mature, dancing among them.
Once Stan's more settled and its not as awkward around him, the two of them go dancing together from time to time, or fill the house with radio music, or just introduce each other to songs they found. He's her go to for social events for a while, even if they aren't dating, just because the only alternative is Dan, a teenager, or Ford, who has two left feet and doesn't pick up on social cues or even like dancing that much.
Her taste and style changes over the years, but she does still dance.
Happy Holidays, whatever you're celebrating ^u^
