【K】 ey chairs jingled a light tune with every bounce to every one of the girl’s steps. School had been a bored today, but Mae couldn’t help but look forward to relaxing at the mental house her parents worked at. Weird right? No one in the right mind would instantly be happy at the thought of going to a Mental Institution for crazy people on a daily basis, right?
Mae was definitely a different one. She liked to see the positive in a seemingly negative situation. People came here to get better, and that what usually happens. Occasionally there was someone who didn’t make it, and of course that upsetted her very much, but most of the time they got better. Almost all of her parent’s patients recovered from their illnesses. That, in her mind, was a huge accomplishment.
And she liked to be a part of it.
As she walked through the hallway, she could here some laughter down the hall. Following the sound, she found that a group of the residents here were watching a movie together. Peeping her head through the door, she smiled and muttered a small hello. They greeted her back with much enthusiasm.
“Heard you’re leaving tomorrow, Damien...?”
She asked and he replied ‘yes’with a large grin on his face.
“Better keep in contact, ya hear..?”
The boy, who was not much older than herself, had a really hard time recovering. He’s been here for almost a year now which was also the time she began to help around the place. The two became quick friends and when her parents saw this and how he’s improved just by talking to her, they suggested she help out especially with the younger patients who tended to be a lot more hostile towards the adult doctors.
Upstairs her parents were waiting for her to meet one of their most recent patients. Apparently he was around her age, same year as her school wise at least. Usually she would only help during group sessions by interacting with people and making them feel more at home, so she was a bit curious when she was requested into the therapy room.
