Loki felt... stupid.
Not the silly, ineffectual, “oh, well, what can you do, this is life now” stupid, which was not exactly an uncommon feeling for him over the last few years. Nor was it the terrified, heart-pounding bad call! Bad call! feeling of regret he dealt with nine times out of ten toward the climax of yet another grandiose plan gone wrong.
This was- and he felt even stupider for this- the form of intense, hateful self-blame that came with inconvenient feelings.
Loki hadn’t been at the gala- he’d stayed home, drinking heavily and wondering if it still counted as a drinking problem if one wasn’t human and couldn’t actually get drunk from human alcohol- but he’d caught wind of what happened afterward and it was, frankly, a little difficult to not want to rip his own skin off for having fallen for Harley, especially with the long list of reasons he had to choose from at present. Dr. Consuela would have told him he was splitting again, but Dr. Consuela was away in Miami at the moment and it was increasingly worrisome that he’d split on her too, and that would be disastrous for multiple parties-
So, he had to take second-best and put it to the test, which consisted of entering Dr. Martin’s office through a little magical subterfuge and sitting and waiting on the edge of her desk. He had time.
