It bugs me that "adult" media as a term is a synonym for "sex" media
like
I promise there is so much more going on there (in stuff that adults do) that is infinitely more present in their lives & more interesting than sex
the massive lists of "how to adult" that float around tumblr sometimes and are giving "adult life advice" prove this alone I think
like of all the stuff that gives OtY transage folks dysphoria/dissociation, sex seems to be wildly low on that list compared to like. driving. or doing the less-obvious housework like cleaning your dishwasher itself of its hard water buildup. or knowing the ins-and-outs of a particular legal system so that you can navigate it.
and visa-versa for stuff that tends to give YtO transage folks euphoria. not really the sex stuff as much but definitely the "adult guide" stuff.
so like can't we just call the "sex media" sex media, or erotica, or porn, or whatever. all the truly descriptive and specific terms for it that already exist
and the adult media can be like
the "children's cartoons" equivalent of watching someone be really good at being an adult, so that adults can feel inspired to get their life together all adult-y or whatever —like the opposite of a drama like Sex in the City. just. folks being really well adjusted and it's incredible like "wow maybe I could do that if I got on ADHD meds, too"
like how animal crossing is a massive relieving fantasy for folks cause they get to actually own a house with a completely interest free mortgage from a housing company guy who basically runs a charity and hates his capitalistic rivals and you're never in any debt that matters
like basically everything about Aggretsuko
