Jaune wasn’t the most perceptive guy around, but Pyrrha Nikos being scared of a upcoming test she didn’t study for was something even someone like him could see was a lie. “You’re scared of failing a test?” Even saying the words was unbelievable to him. There was a certain kind of uneasiness on her face that was not one caused by... Test taking. At least that’s what he thought, but he also doubted himself, maybe it was just as she said, maybe she was telling the truth like always. 

“Well, if it makes you feel any better, I haven’t studied yet either. We could go study together if you’d like. Or....” His voice turned to a more mischievous and playful one as he spoke “...Maybe we could go do something fun. Forget about school for a little bit? Like... I don’t know, go to the park?” That wasn’t lame, was it? Probably. 

“Or maybe even find Nora and Ren and play another game of compost! I know you like it more than you say you do.” He chuckled, any reason to play compost was a good reason at this point, being so far from home and no one playing the game around Vale meant he was a for sure winner.

[ caress ] "Um... you... have a bit... of dirt.... on your face." Training was a little rough today.

 It had been a hard session that night, and he was hot and sweaty. Perhaps he shouldn’t have worn the hoodie tonight? 

Blasphemy.

But it didn’t surprise him he’d gotten a smudge of dirt on his face. Well, maybe mud now.  Jaune turned a quizzical smile on his partner as he caught his breath.

“W...Won’t you just... have dirt on your hand now?” He asked in between pants, lifting his hoodie and shirt to fan at his overheated abs.

A roll of his eyes “Have all the attitude you’d like, just don’t piss me off too much.” He wasn’t going to tell her the reasoning why he chose her specifically, she could probably guess. “You have a dress right? This isn’t some dumb frat party. Will be flying to Mistral in the morning so get packed and ready to before then.” 

If she didn’t have a dress that she liked his father surly would pay, the man had been prying for Cardin to bring a date, to show maturity and that he was serious about his coming position. “Will be gone for a day, leaving tomorrow, spending the night in a hotel then coming back in the morning, will miss no school and we can just forget this weekend ever happened. Do you need an Itinerary?”

It was certainly a lot to be just dropped on you but he knew she could handle it, plus, he didn’t care if she couldn’t. But this was Pyrrha, was there anything she couldn’t handle? He didn’t think so.

“Yeah, you don’t have to worry about that.” Ren said as he walked over to put on his trusty apron and wash his hands. He looked over his shoulder. “Is there anything in particular you’d like?”

“Weeeeeeelllll, that sounds like a tall order, but then again, I’m just happy being with you. So it maybe we should give it a try after all?”

“Aw, shoot, I’m being kidnapped.....”

Jaune gripped Pyrrha’s hand, face flat and annoyed. Light blind every single last newsie, socialite, recruiter and every other punk that had made Pyrrha show up at this ridiculous charity masquerade gala. And curse whatever moron designed the monkey suit he was currently wearing. The tux was certainly not designed with sufficient thought for range of movement.

He did rather like the mask though.

“Endorsement money is not worth putting up with all these annoying, badgering creeps.”  Jaune grumbled darkly. “No matter how much it is. What’s the point of all this fancy dress and brass bands and junk? Couldn’t the rebuilding effort have used whatever cash they’re dropping here more productively?”

Jaune scowled at his girlfriend and her obviously faux protests. “You’re enjoying this.” He accused her, heading towards a back exit. Yeah, they probably weren’t supposed to leave yet. But what was he, some kind of boot licker? 

“Screw this rairifed air, Pumpkin Pete’s, and every sleazy high brow that enjoys this crap. I’m getting us out of here. Maybe we can get something that not only costs less than a few G a plate and fills you up. Light knows we won’t find either here.”
