“Oh dear, could you not tell Fitz I told you about Zappy? He’s not going to like being yelled at about keeping it, and then I’ll get a lecture about how he saved my life and it gets really absurd really fast.” 

“Well where was I? oh yes Fitz was upset about the rat, and wanted to get revenge on Skye for losing him. I was rather annoyed with her myself as I had to set out a bunch of non-lethal rat traps to regain my lab specimens and keep them out of the plane. I suggested the use of capsaicin but Fitz said that was going too far- he wanted to use trinitro iodide. So I started making some for him.”

“Director! I didn’t expect you,” Jemma exclaimed as she hurriedly tried to clean up the uncharacteristic mess of papers all over her bed before Coulson got to reading what they were and started asking questions.

There had been so much to say. So much more than could ever fit on a flex screen. She’d wanted to tell them to not blame themselves, though she didn’t know how she had been caught she was sure it was her own fault. She’d wanted to ask that they lie to her parents, tell them she’d died quickly and peacefully in some lab accident. She wanted to tell them, tell them all how much she loved them- but there was no room and no time. Three words- I’ve Been Made. That was it, the last words SHIELD would ever hear from her- if they got to the flex screen drop before Whitehall's men did. She couldn’t be sure. 

She’d been trained for a lot of things in her time, even to withstand interrogation, to a point. This was far beyond her training though. Everything hurt, her body was pumped full of drugs that made every nerve ending seem to scream in pain. Her eyes were forced open being kept wet and made to watch the endless stream of images she couldn’t even focus on, words in her head that weren’t her own... compliance would be rewarded- no she couldn’t comply- she couldn’t tell them anything but - compliance would be rewarded...

He sips the milkshake with a smile on his face. “Perfect.”

“So you trust me to make the deserts then?” She asked excited about her new chance to show off one of her less well known skills.

Two Zombies Walk onto a Space Station

It had been a long time since she had seen the others. Jemma didn’t know fully how long, because much of it she spent sedated, and much of it she spent dead. So it felt like years and no time at all. She hadn’t asked Daisy how long it had been for them. It seemed like something she should want to know, but asking- well she just didn’t. It didn’t feel like it mattered to do so. What if it had been months? What if it had been hours? What did it matter? It didn’t change where they were now.

She heard them greeting Daisy. Happy voices, familiar voices. She was dead in their minds. Maybe she should stay that way, just back away, let them have their moment and disappear somewhere within the lighthouse. She’d have to knock out Fitz though, he was holding her arm and walking her to the doorway behind which the others were and while she could think just leaving would be okay, hurting him to do so? She felt less sure about that being an acceptable method of avoiding this moment. He was already shot after all. 

That’s why she got walked in in front of Coulson, Elena, and Mack. Fitz arrived in the future- her back from the dead. She couldn’t begin to guess what they might be thinking now.

Bad Timing

It was disgusting. Everything about it made her skin crawl and she was forced to sit here and listen to it talk. It was feigning being hurt and afraid of it’s new powers. Jemma couldn’t wait till she could slit its throat.

Patience. Wait for the moment. We hate it too. Patience. Defenses still up.

Her friend’s steady stream of reassurances were the only reason she could keep up her own facade of believing it, of caring about it, of wanting to help it. 

“I know this is hard for you,” She said in a soothing voice to the abomination that was pacing frantically before her. “I know it can be very terrifying to find out you are something different than you thought but I can help you. I’m here for you, to help you.”
