as karolina stood behind the large post she did her best to stay still. she could feel herself panicking a bit. years away from the lab and suddenly she felt like it had come back to haunt her again. at least that’s what she thought when she had overheard someone talking about it. those words alone had made her run and she hadn’t stopped until a few minutes ago. she had no idea if anyone had actually followed her, but her instincts told her to stay put.

“Ms Byers, you said I could trust you, right?” her brows rose as she felt so nervous to even be asking this. The other woman had been so kind to her since they first bumped into each other that she hoped she could trust her. After all she wanted to reveal one of her biggest secrets and not many people knew about it. “It’s going to be a huge thing to show and I just want to prepare you in advance.”

"do you remember when you asked if i'd ever been here before? well, i didn't tell you the whole truth," she sugarcoated it. karolina had lied since she wasn't sure what the whole situation in the town had been. it had taken her time to figure out how much each person knew. but now, now she felt like she could be honest about her past. "i was here before. many years ago and i escaped."

there was a sense of familiarity when her eyes fell upon the other figure. however, what made her realize who they could be had been the number. her old name from the days spent in the lab. "yes, that's who i am, or was," she paused, "or still am i suppose." karolina slowly approached them, finally remembering their face. "eleven."

karolina had been lucky to evade capture and live a somewhat normal life. however, the number on her left wrist was a permanent reminder of her past, of who she was. her past seemed to slowly creep up on her as she had inched closer and closer to indiana. then it was just outside of hawkins. then she had spent just about a month in the town, having made herself somewhat of a resident.

the blonde hair girl made her way to an empty park before taking a seat on a bench. "i wish i knew why i'd felt drawn to come back to this place," she spoke to herself, a low tone. not even a month back here had given her any answers.

“wait, is all of that really true? it’s not just same tale you like to spin as part of some party trick or something?” her brows rose. of course there were many things karolina had seen that some wouldn’t believe. the biggest thing could even be the powers she possessed. she had never met anyone quite like her and her bio dad hadn’t even been completely like her either.

“yeah, i wish i could say i designed this but the only thing i actually made is the necklace,” she proudly traced some fingers over the rainbow pendant around her neck. it had been a labor of love and a way to showcase her acceptance of her own identity. it was much better than just being the literal rainbow all the time with her powers. “my name is karolina, by the way.”
