Who?

Charles Whitman was a 25-year-old Marine veteran. Married to Kathy Leissner. He became known as the 'Texas Tower Sniper'.

Whitman was the perpetrator in the University of Texas shooting in 1966.

The motive is disputed however during his autopsy a brain tumor had been discovered leading to the likely conclusion that his motive was mental illness as a result of the tumor.

Whitman's count is set at 18 with the caveat that it includes himself, two prior victims*, an unborn child, and a victim who died of injuries years later. 31 were left injured.

*Prior to his attack he had murdered both his wife and his mother.

Charles Whitman died at his own hands in the attack. He presently rests in Hillcrest Memorial Park, West Palm Beach, Florida.
