from /r/vexillology Top comment: The flag of Northumbria is taken from a description made by Venerable Bede, England’s first historian, in his *Historia Ecclesiastica Gentis Anglorum*. In his writing he describes the funeral of the 7th century King and Saint Oswald, who founded the kingdom, where over the man’s tomb “…they hung up over the monument his banner made of gold and purple”. In 2015 the Flag Institute registered the banner of King Oswald as the flag of the former kingdom. It is also widely known as it served as the inspiration for the modern flag of the county of Northumberland, and is seeing increased use amongst movements who push for northern devolution and/or independence.

hi just came across your blog and i was just wondering why you don't just make an oc since obi-wan seems like it's become his own thing with a different species and your use of personal art rather than the actual material? seems like he's become a character outside of obi-wan you could explore and therés no info really as to your changes so it's a bit confusing.

hello dear stranger!

i love obi-wan as a character very much, so the thought of making an oc never really crossed my mind. i really like all of obi-wan's flaws, his lackluster communicative ability, and his intricate (and most of the time failing) relationship dynamics. his background though... feels a little hollow. even with the jedi apprentice series, i feel like there's still so much more to explore about obi-wan's past, and i don't consider making some changes to stewjon enough to warrant building an entire original character

honestly, i don't even consider obi-wan's appearance—his eyes, ears, and hair—to be the biggest difference between him and canon (it just makes him more fun to draw). that, my dear, would be the way he's willing to bend his interpretation of the jedi code for as long as the clone wars continue. i want him to care about having anakin and his grandpadawan fighting in a war, i want him to not give a shit about The Chosen One Prophesy, and i want him to look for alternate avenues so his people and army with no real choice in the matter don't have to die in a pointless war. i love the idea of him struggling with love and peace and the way he was raised just not working anymore

second to that, i think the largest difference would be the way he interacts with the clone troopers (please see: #obi-wan loves the clones and so do i tag)

those are all things that make me think 'maybe this is a little out of character', but then again, that's just what AUs are for! even though he's a little different, he's still very much obi-wan and this is just the way i like to write him. and draw him. because like i said, he's more fun to draw this way :}
