“I’m sorry, Sir.” Ruby put on her best little pout, pretending to be seeking forgiveness for laughing at him. “It won’t happen again. I swear.”

“Treat me like the little whore I am.” Ruby loved playing the part, and she did it well. She shifted and curled, hands and knees as she propped herself up on the bed to arch her back, exposing her body to them. “You wouldn’t be here if you didn’t want the whole experience, would you?”

Ever since Ruby could learn who she was and what she could do, she tried to fight it, for her mother’s sake. Her parents were never supposed to be together, which lead to Ruby being rejected by both sides of her heritage. She didn’t fit in with the humans and she didn’t fit in with the demons, so what could she possibly do but make her own life for herself? This life included trying to rid the world of terrible things, because she didn’t want to become the monster everyone assumed she would be. That was what led her to the alleyway, chasing some monster she still hadn’t identified. She didn’t expect to find a fresh corpse instead. She slowly approached, frowning as she reached down to check for a pulse she knew wouldn’t be there. Still, she had to check. Sighing softly, Ruby got to her feet, only to hear footsteps at the other end of the alley. Oh no, not good. She turned to flee, but whomever it was was approaching too quickly. She’d never get out without them seeing her. Better to stand her ground than run. “This isn’t what it looks like.”
