“i’ve been wondering something,” thomas starts, with absolutely no preamble. sure, he’s something of a wordsmith but that also means knowing when to use words in moderation. and as far as he can tell, dodger isn’t one for a long attention span, so he figures he should get right to the point. “can you eat chocolate? because maybe i’d consider getting you a nice gift of, say, chocolate covered pretzels and i’d hate to offend. or murder, as the case may be. i admit, i haven’t tried it myself. still don’t have much of a sweet tooth.”
the weather is a huge nuisance when it comes to at least one of his vices -- smoking. it’s always snowing or raining or precipitating in some way which makes keeping something lit annoyingly difficult. and it’s not like he can smoke at home, if he even has the right to call it that. he’s told his wife he quit this particular bad habit, and he thought he had, but he’s especially stressed these days, and can anyone blame him? he finds a sheltered alcove near the pub he usually frequents and as he flicks the lighter on, he notices another figure in the exceptionally dim lighting. “a bit dark out to be loitering alone in a place like this, don’t you think? i almost feel like i should be afraid.”
( SAM HEUGHAN, THIRTY-SIX, HE/HIS )┊THOMAS O'MALLEY is the parent of THREE CHILDREN. they seem to enjoy living in auradon. i’ve heard they’re known to be SAUVE + FLIGHTY. we’ll be keeping an eye on them to see how they’ll write their own story.
( SYDNEY PARK, EIGHTEEN, SHE/HER )┊OPAL is the child of MAMA ODIE and they are an ONLY CHILD. they seem to enjoy living in auradon. i’ve heard they’re known to be GENEROUS + PROBING. we’ll be keeping an eye on them to see how they’ll write their own story.
i was joking when i said i only do intros in pairs then again apparently no i was Not
thomas seems like an impulsive person but he’s honestly not good with big changes or committing to things. he plays things safe, for the most part. he hung with the alley cats because he was known but there were no expectations from him and he liked that mix of familiarity and freedom. it was kind of perfect for him
i only say he’s flighty because even when he was living his old life that didn’t require much change, he was always allowed to skip town or disappear for awhile without question, he only lived for himself
but theoretically, there comes a time when everyone has to grow up and find something bigger to live for. which is where duchess and her children came in and absolutely without a doubt they’re the most important thing in his life
they became so important so quickly tho??? so he got. stressed and Also there might always be a part of him that feels out of his depth and not good enough
and is he wrong lol
key characteristics: not confident but cocky in a very put-on way sometimes; smooth talker/charmer; street wise/heart stupid; loyal ok don’t get it twisted (he’s slow to commit because he’s even slower to uncommit); not comfortable with complete transparency particularly when it comes to his Feelings
tada
so opal is a canon character to the descendants book series although idk do the school of secrets books really count as being part of the series u tell me
uh here’s the thing. she can technically read thoughts but she doesn’t typically try to. and i would phrase it specifically like that; she reads thoughts not minds, because she only really hears the very loudest thoughts and only if you’re close to her. don’t be yelling in your head and it’s fine!
sure she can cast voodoo spells but she doesn’t very often. it’s not even that being raised in auradon and learning about the risks of magic informed her opinion on the matter. her mother has never used magic as a first solution and is more fond of letting things play out the way they’re going to and the real answer to any problem is probably........deeper. ok u knew i was going to say that and you would have too
opal is pretty breezy about life. if there’s one thing she knows, it’s that life is really long and it’s a waste of time to dwell on the dumb inconsequential things. things really do work out in the end if you just keep doing u
she’s kind of nosy tho sorry about that. it’s difficult for her to get Serious about most things but she’s a great listener and advice giver and definitely likes to look on the bright side
would it be utterly too egotistical to think that the doom and gloom now settling over auradon via unexpected snow was somehow his doing? he was back and so was winter -- the most solemn and foreboding of seasons. he truly hoped that this wasn’t some kind of omen for his marriage. duchess’s ire towards him was completely justified, and if the children iced him out, then he deserved that, too. but ultimately, his departure was in service to them. thomas, typically a man who always knew the right thing to say, simply had no idea how to explain any of this to his wife or family. as they sat at the dining room table, he at least counted himself lucky that she let him inside. “you have to know, i was always going to come back.”
