Neve Week 2025 Day 3: Trouble | Contentment & Day 4: Neve's Future

A little peek at Neve's post-game life with Aleksi Aldwir for @datvcompanionweeks

It had been a long night, and an even longer case, but Neve was satisfied. She'd found her missing person, and business was better than ever. There were enough cases coming in that she and Rana had decided to bring Aleksi on board as well. Unfortunately, this meant the two of them often worked odd hours, separate cases, late nights. However, despite the chaos of their life, he always made an effort to be there for her. As much as possible. A promise he kept for himself as much as for her.

Neve opened the door to her small Dock Town apartment and was greeted by the smell of freshly, and properly, brewed coffee. As her eyes adjusted to the dim light, she spotted Aleksi sprawled across the bed. His bare chest was steadily rising and falling with every breath as he slept. She smiled to herself and tried to quietly close the door behind her, but failed, accidently tapping it against her prosthetic with a dull clunk.

"Venhedis," Neve swore under her breath as Aleksi stirred.

"Neve?" His voice was rougher than usual, thick with sleep, as he slowly sat upright, briefly rubbing his face before looking at her.

"Hey, Trouble. Didn't mean to wake you." She poured herself some coffee, wrapping both hands around the warm mug and inhaling the aroma as she moved to sit on the edge of the bed. "I didn't think you'd be here." He voice betrayed the worry she had been feeling. The fear that she would come home to an empty apartment, that he'd be hurt on the job. Or worse.

Aleksi moved closer to her, placing a hand against the small of her back. "Mhmm. That's alright. I hadn't been asleep very long. Was hoping to be awake when you got home anyway." He paused and offered a small smile. "And why wouldn't I be here?"

She glanced at him out of the corner of her eye, attempting not to show how his touch affected her. But she knew he could see right through her. "I just thought you might be working late too."

Aleksi reached out and placed his fingers against her jawline, gently turning her face to look at him. "You're still afraid I'm going to disappear again." It wasn't a question.

Neve's eyes narrowed. Her voice was quiet. "Well, aren't you a perceptive one."

He held her face in his hand, softly stroking her cheek with his thumb. He gazed deeply into her eyes. "Neve, you know I'm not going anywhere. I'm always here for you. I promise."

"I know." She grinned at him slyly. "And I'm going to hold you to that promise."

Hand still on her face, he pulled Neve toward him, pressing his lips against hers, softly at first, but quickly deepening the kiss. His other hand moved from her back to her waist, fingers teasing the skin just beneath the edge of her blouse.

Neve longed to move closer, nearly giving in to his advance, but remembered the mug still in her hands, coffee quickly growing cold. She slowly pried herself away with a chuckle, tapping the mug with a teal-painted nail. "You're going to let me finish my coffee first."

Laying back against the pillows with a groan, Aleksi relented. "Mmm. You're the boss, Neve."

"Mmhmm." Neve looked at him over the lip of her mug as he settled into the bed, his features slightly obscured by the fading steam, and smiled, her eyes shining. "You know it, Trouble."
