hi, im really interested in why you see reyna and nico in the seven and not percy and annabeth. i thought so too but cant put it into words
well, percy and annabeth had the entire pjo series to themselves. they were main characters, they had completed character arcs, and they both had amazing potential that was touched upon very well. pjo was such a well-written series that brought them to a happy and secure ending. meanwhile, nico was a minor character. we knew a lot about him and his past, and saw that he got some closure as well — the difference is that he had so much character potential to explore in a later series. he was twelve at the time, so it would have been great to see him grow up gradually like percy in another series!
there’s also reyna, and i swear, i love her so much. she has a fleshed out backstory, good motivations, and do you imagine what things could be touched upon if her narrative extended beyond boo? she would discuss about being the most pure roman out of all the seven, and she would have to deal with the fact that she had become a traitor to the very camp she was praetor of. the emotional impact, the development — she deserved to be a main character.
it’s so sad when i think about what we could’ve had. instead of seeing nico and reyna learning how to let go and allow other people into their lives, we had to see percy and annabeth — two characters with finished arcs — take all the spotlight away from newer characters. i love percy and annabeth but it was bad writing for the two of them to be in the seven. rick should not write for nostalgia but for new experiences. there is still so much to be done with nico and reyna’s characters (especially in toa, jfc) and percy and annabeth should have been allowed to grow up. it’s unlikely for them to be a part of another great prophecy (that happens only six months after the first? bitch?) and there is not much room for more development besides tartarus and the mark of athena. basically, nico and reyna would’ve allowed more characters to have the spotlight and would’ve allowed for the seven to be an actual family.
