Accademia dei Lincei / Via della Lungara 10
Non sono mai stato all’Accademia dei Lincei anche se, come molti, il lungotevere è una delle zone di Roma che amo. Ho scelto questo posto che non ho mai visitato, dove nel 1968 si è costituito il Club di Roma (The Club of Rome*), come lo spazio negativo su una mappa di consapevolezza globale.
The Club of Rome è un think-tank internazionale, la cui missione è stata (ed è) analizzare e confrontarsi con i macro-cambiamenti climatici, il superamento dei limiti fisici del pianeta, la scarsità di risorse conseguenti l’esponenziale curva di sviluppo tecnologico e crescita economica del secolo scorso, e l’individuazione di scenari possibili e soluzioni alternative su scala globale. Il gruppo pubblicò nel 1972 la prima edizione del celebre rapporto The Limits to Growth, basato sulla simulazione al computer World3, che predice le conseguenze della continua crescita della popolazione sull'ecosistema terrestre e sulla stessa sopravvivenza della specie umana. Il nome del gruppo nasce dal fatto che la prima riunione si svolse a Roma, presso la sede dell'Accademia dei Lincei alla Villa Farnesina. Il mio contributo è un gioco di parole, che rigira il nome del gruppo in The Club of More, e reinterpreta liberamente il logo originale dell’associazione (un globo terrestre stilizzato) con cinque figure emoji relazionate orizzontalmente: tre punti di vista del pianeta (America, Europa/Africa, Asia/Oceania), un reticolato astratto (IT, astrazione finanziaria), una fiamma (global warming, catastrofe).

I have never been to the Accademia dei Lincei although, like many others, the Tiber is one of the areas in Rome I love. I have chosen a place that I have never visited, where in 1968 the Club of Rome was formed (The Club of Rome*), as the negative space on a map of global consciousness. The Club of Rome is an international think-tank whose mission was (and is) to analyse and deal with macro-climate change. In the process it endeavours to overcome the physical limits of the planet, the scarcity of resources resulting from the exponential curve of technological development and economic growth of the last century and the identify possible scenarios and alternative solutions on a global scale. In 1972 the group published the first edition of the famous report The Limits to Growth, based on World3 computer simulation, which predicts the consequences of continued population growth on the earth's ecosystem and the very survival of the human species. The group's name comes from the fact that the first meeting took place in Rome, at the headquarters of the Accademia dei Lincei at the Villa Farnesina. My contribution is a play on words which turns the name of the group into The Club of More, and freely reinterprets the association's original logo (a stylised globe) with five horizontally related emoji figures: three points of view of the planet (America, Europe /Africa, Asia/ Oceania), an abstract grid (IT, financial abstraction) and a flame (global warming, catastrophe).
