sunlight filtered through his blinds far too soon for orion’s liking; the golden hues kissing cloth and skin alike as twilight turned to morning. though he hadn’t been asleep prior to the intrusion, it was an annoyance all the same. his body had fallen into sleep somewhere after midnight, diabolus tucked against his side like some warm, living, breathing miracle. but the gift had been fleeting, and by 5:45, he was awake again, the buzz of champagne and party cocktails still hazy and loud in his mind. he’d spend the tender moments in between simply staring like some creep out of a romance novel. in retrospection, he should have risen. made coffee. done ANYTHING else. but the planes of dia’s cheeks were captivating when there was no risk of them simply fading away -- when orion didn’t have to account for whatever sharp words might accompany their angle. besides, in a sense, he’d promised himself to the man only hours earlier. no real commitment to it, no holy matrimony. all the same, it was more than he’d allowed anyone since evie. and that made the other invaluable. it made the skin against his own into a new sort of HOME. and if the sunlight awoke the other, his chance to simply admire his newfound hope might vanish.
“ sorry. ” he hummed softly when he thought he saw the man stir. “ did i wake you ? ”
