ILYA SWANBROOK is a peasant farmer turned dragon hunter, born to his father bron, & his mother ygrette. his peculiar last name stems from the fact the farm that his family occupies is by a brook populated by swans & in his town, similarly to how people in our western medieval society were named, one was typically given the surname of an area they lived in, who their father was, or a trade they had. ilya is very strong, from doing much of the manual labour on his farm since his father lost his leg in a working accident, & his mother is rather frail & sickly, & typically sticks to being more of a homebody. in general, ilya is very friendly, very intelligent despite not being particularly booksmart ( libraries are very sparse in their area ), strong, & determined to do what is right for the people he cares about, & for the people of the reach in general. he’s righteous, & has an incredibly strong moral compass. he is your ideal hero.
zhyvian, as the dragon, had been missing as king for 10 years when ilya decided himself that he was going to go slay the beast, after the capitol offered a bounty for the killing of it on suspicion that it had somehow played a part in the king’s disappearance ( zhyvian had disappeared, & suddenly a dragon had appeared & brought with it others, yet no one caught on ).
he went after it in order to claim the bounty for his family, so they could live a more leisurely life where they wouldn’t have to exert themselves with manual labour to sustain themselves with their fallbacks. ilya reluctantly left, not wanting to abandon the workload to his parents, but his older brother jericho encouraged him to leave if he truly wanted to go after the beast ( though hesitantly, since he didn’t want to risk losing his little brother ). during his journey, ilya was met with an ash elf, kira alamek, & a previous knight of the dragons, the order under zhyvian during his reign, elka lofström.
when he met the great dragon, they engaged in a fierce battle, but when he heard it speak to him he hesitantly laid down his weapons. ilya is the only one to discover, or be let in on the well-kept, magically bound secret, that the beast was human. all alone, in the fleeting moments where zhyvian was human, & even as a dragon, the two developed a friendship, & even further a romance. the two got to know each other, however, ilya was not aware of just why zhyvian had been cursed to remain a dragon, not knowing of his negligent cruelty. they exchanged intimate moments together, & when ilya discovered just who zhyvian had been in his life, he grew angry, & confronted him, & again the two battled. ilya eventually helped zhyvian reconcile with himself, but when they got back to the capitol, it had been overthrown. ilya had helped zhyvian so much, & not through coddling this man’s ego, so zhyvian now had a chance to win back his people, if not to become king, but to at least undo his curse & rid the reach, & palemai in general of the darkness that was overtaking their land.
open to: mutuals muse: ilya sohn. he/him. desc: closing time at a bowling alley in a small town prone to crime. other circumstances flexible to your muse and their verse.
ilya had worked beneath the sloping roof of cosmos’s cosmic bowl for nearly six years; teenaged day job turned career while life passed on around him. it was the curse, he figured, of coming from a sleepy town. the kind where the sun never quite made it through the clouds and mountains kissed the skyline as far as the eye could see. it was easy to feel trapped -- easier to go stagnant. and though he’d begun to make a life for himself there at last, none of it felt any more exciting. “ we’re closing soon. ” he hummed gently as the bell above the door signaled an arrival. the bowling alley had been void of customers for almost ten minutes prior; an excellent opportunity to clean. it had also left the lanes eerily quiet, though. nothing to fill the air but the hum of the machines and ilya’s own soft breathing. “ though, by all means, you’re welcome to attempt the world’s quickest game. or were you just coming in to get away from the rain ? ” whatever it was, he didn’t mind the chance for a little small talk.
