Afternoon light filtered past the nursery curtains, but the room was quiet. Lucius practically held his breath as he looked down at the infant resting in an ornate wooden crib. There was a silver and blue dragon painted all across the wall behind it, eyes glowing with enchantment, and stars danced across the ceiling. It was altogether another world, but it was fitting for the only son and heir of the Malfoy family.
“He’s so small,” Lucius murmured, not even glancing at his wife because it meant he’d look away from Draco. It had been almost a month now, but Lucius still sometimes couldn’t believe that they were parents. More than ever before, the skull and snake tattoo on Lucius’ forearm filled him with dread, because he had more to lose now that he ever had before.
