CHERRY PICKING
summary: cold hearted Theodore Nott—the boy in the back of the classroom, the mysterious man who never seems interested by any of the girls who kept on trying to get his attention. That was, until he met someone who would change him in ways he couldn't believe.
content: quiet T/N, sunshine girl, slowburn, strangers to friends (so far), metions of violence (part I).
Another evening at Hogwarts, just a few more weeks and all students would get to go home for spring break.
Everyone was in the Great Hall for dinner, happily chattering. Sitting at their table, the slytherin boys were talking about the upcoming Quidditch match: Slytherin against Gryffindor, the second time that year..
Theodore was as always, zoning out, looking like he was deeply thinking about something.
"But you know what I can't understand about you, Theo?" Draco said, continuing to talk to Theo even though he knew the boy wasn't listening to a word he said.
Theo's eyes shot up.
"What?" He asked, the confusion being covered by his bored tone.
"Merlin, talking to you is like talking to a brick wall," Draco continued.
"I genuinely couldn't care less about that Quidditch match, Draco. It's gonna be rigged just like the last one." Theo slightly snapped at that point.
"We finished that discussion years ago, I was talking about how you've got all this attention and no will to try and find yours." Draco rolled his eyes dramatically.
Theo sat straight in his chair.
"I'm not interested in fans." His assertive tone catching some students attention.
"You can't be serious." Blaise responded surprised.
Mattheo noded as agreement.
"I agree with Blaise, you've got so many chicks hanging around you and you can't even make an effort to choose one of them." He says, digging his spoon in the lava cake that sat untouched in his plate.
"You can have them." Theo finished the conversation, standing up from his seat.
He walked away from the Great Hall, his frustration slowly fading away.
The Black Lake's small waves were shinning like diamonds in the moonlight. Theo sat alone on the grass, trying to get a moment of peace.
That was until he noticed a girl in the distance, she seemed to be looking for something.
In his mind, Theo could've sworn she was another one of the girls who tried to get his attention, but as he stared he realised she wasn't one of them.
He began walking towards her.
The girl turned her head in his direction when she noticed him. She was truly beautiful, with glowing eyes and a curious look on her face.
"Hi there" she said, looking up at the boy who approached her.
"Hi" He said, the sudden silence tormenting him.
"I'm Y/N, nice to meet you." She said, extending her hand for him to shake.
"Theo, Theodore Nott." He replied, looking down at her hand afterwards. He doesn't shake her hand.
"Not touchy, noted." The girl jokes, but he doesn't seem to budge.
"So.. what are you doing out here?" She asks, keeping her position straight.
"What are you doing out here?" He asks again, his accent dropping, as if she wasn't supposed to be there in the first place.. or as if he shouldn't be questioned.
"Looking for my necklace, lost it somewhere here. Accio doesn't work." She responds casually, not paying him too much attention now.
"How does it look like?" His questions felt like interrogation to her, which she found funny.
"It's shiny." She says half-mouthed, knowing she was starting to annoy him.
"Very helpful.." he responds almost immediately, her strategy working.
The girl can't help but giggle at the annoyed tone in his voice and his sour face, it was hilarious to her.
He can't help but chuckle as well, but not as loud and cheerful as her.
They end up searching for her necklace, finding it shortly after, hung in a young tree branch.
Walking back to the castle they make small talk, it seemed like nothing, but inside Nott's heart was a sparkle of something new, something he thought was just the feeling of meeting someone new.
But he wasn't so sure of it.
