Clipped Wings

It was a shame. Karin had actually almost entertained the thought of coming out and surrendering to the enemy just to escape her awful day-to-day life.
Amidst the battle cries, deafening explosions, and death throes of unfortunate shinobi, Karin heard nothing but the sound of her own pain ringing in her ears. Teeth sunk into her flesh. Bruises darkened on her arms where the poor bastards grabbed her and consumed unholy amounts of her chakra until their gaping wounds were tiny scratches.
Karin regretted coming back here. Her recon task was successful, but why the hell had she bothered to come back? She felt dizzy and her body hurt like the devil. She was going to die here.
But she could see it. In every window she exposed her chakra signature, she could see it. That same immense chakra signature-- an enemy’s, no less. He favored quick battles. Every opponent he encountered was gone before she could blink. Precise movements, like he knew where his next targets would be. There, another one gone. Now two more. Hell, he was getting close to her location. With a grim smirk, Karin thought that maybe this mystery man could find and make quick work of her suffering, too. Ha, the only act of kindness she’d be getting in years would be from the enemy.
“What so funny?” the shinobi barked, snapping Karin out of her daze as he lurched forward and seized her other sore, bitemark-riddled arm and making Karin wince as he bit down. “Focus on healing me!”
