The first time the man came into the coffee shop, Junsu did a double-take. It wasn’t unusual for the Fae to take humans – usually when they were only babies – and replace them with Changelings in the mortal realm. He was the sworn protector of a Changeling that had been a product of such a…trade…so he knew the signs well. The human in his shop had all the hidden markings of one touched by the Fae, likely the darker court, and that made him curious – and more than a little worried.
That first time, he kept his distance, even going so far as to allow one of his other employees to wait on him while Junsu hid out in his tiny office in the back. The second time, however, he felt like it was less a coincidence and something that bore looking into further. If the dark Fae, those Unseelie bastards that had taken his family and his home, were skulking about, then danger wasn’t far behind.
The cup of coffee was placed in front of the mortal, the chair across from him taken unceremoniously. His eyes swept over the man’s face, his gaze not friendly but not outright hostile in its intensity. “You smell of the Fae.” Lids blinked slowly, eyes never wavering. “But you are not Fae.”
Though a question wasn’t posed, it was clear in his demeanor that Junsu wanted some sort of answer, some sort of explanation as to who he was and why he was there. “My name is Junsu. This is my shop. I was once of the Seelie court, but I suspect you knew that – or at least whoever sent you knew it. Why are you here?”
