The little league quidditch headcanon is far too precious and requires expanding upon!

it’s born, in part, out of guilt. a particularly tricky case has harry working odd hours and barely seeing his family for some time ( and really, seeing them is just in passing as he’s using daylight to sleep ). it happens on occasion. while harry is a good dad, there are sometimes world-saving matters that pull him from being able to be completely present ( he hates it. )

he’s getting their oldest ready one particular morning, but runs into a toddler-sized roadblock. we don’t like red anymore, apparently. a fact that leaves harry flabbergasted but confirmation with ginny tells him this has been going on for weeks. feeling as though he has had a bucket of ice dumped over him, harry spends the rest of the morning closely watching over his son. ( “was that tooth there yesterday?” / “where’s his stuffed monkey?” )

clearly, something must be done. a walk in the park offers an answer to his existential crisis in fatherhood as an advert for the league also has an inquiry for coaches. harry and his son are signed up that day.

Got any Quidditch headcanons?

i can definitely see the argument ( more so than what people try to say with ginny ) that harry is a mary sue~ because of his quidditch abilities but i think he had been honing the necessary skills his whole life. dodging blunt objects, being quick and agile, having nimble fingers, and the ability to see through chaos to find a solution. in that way, quidditch is very soothing for him. it offers structure and a definitive end, which is something he doesn’t often get in reality.

he stops caring about house cup pretty quickly. he never stops caring the inter-house quidditch cup.

being quidditch captain gave him very similar feelings to when he was teaching da. harry likes coaching people in their skills and he likes feeling as though he has something to give and pass on.

when he’s at his most despondent, quidditch is usually the thing that can get him to be somewhat functioning again. the physical activity coupled with his general love of flying allows him time to clear his head and come back into his own skin.

if harry had pursued any career post-war, it would have been the professional quidditch route. viktor krum, regarded as the best seeker in the world, was very impressed with harry’s abilities and probably would have helped him meet with team leaders. ( not that they wouldn’t have clamored for him to join them anyway. )

the first time he hears “and here comes… potter!” when ginny rides out, he needs to step out and go for a walk around the stadium because he’s full of so much emotion he thinks he might burst.

he very rarely misses one of ginny’s matches. the only time it is acceptable is when there is a massive threat / huge crisis and even then he’s going to be very grumpy the whole time.

he’s very passionate and loud in cheering at matches. always wearing the colors and just in general losing his ever-loving mind.

he’s always the one to get his nieces / nephews their first broom. ( it’s tradition. )

he coaches the equivalent of a little league for his kids.

but back to my Bullshit - harry is a victim of childhood of abuse who then had a lifetime of trauma packed onto his shoulders who frequently gets embarrassed every time he feels an Emotion and has always placed his mental state on the back burner when there were more pressing matters at hand. he doesn’t let go of the threat of war after voldemort is dead because he can’t, and he has to keep himself going solely because he doesn’t trust the ministry unless he is directly involved in its assembly. he starts to deteriorate but is able to keep up a professional front for the good of the masses until his wheels absolutely come off.

#he does enough to check in with people who care about him #which isn't enough #but he can't emotionally connect in the way that is needed #because he is so out of touch with his emotions #because it's the only way he feels he can survive #he Really starts to lose it after his 21st birthday #in that he can't maintain a public persona anymore and his work starts to be very much affected #* 003. HEADCANON.

harry in the immediate aftermath goes to stay with the weasleys, where initially he is able to sleep for days on end. it doesn’t last ( nothing does ) and when he wakes up the absence of fred ( and by default, george ) becomes a little too much for him to handle. though maintaining very public notoriety in his work at the ministry and answering the letters the come in, he distances himself from his more intimate relationships. contact with him becomes sporadic.

a concept: harry being the only potter but upon discovering his roots in india comes across distant relatives in the poddars who explain to him the origins of their ancestors and have memories of james visiting them as a child and fleamont and euphemia moving back during the first war and ultimately passing there
