“Uh---” He’s not a very confrontational type of person, but seeing a stranger poking around in the team garage is a bit disconcerting to say the least--- not to mention her rather cryptic comment. “Can I ask what you’re doing here? This area is for staff only.” Harry’s attempt to sound assertive makes him cringe at himself; yes, he’s just the test driver, but still. He just hopes she doesn’t notice that he’s more nervous than she is.

“I guess so. I guess so.” Harry isn’t a man who likes to sit around and do nothing--- for what’s possibly the first time in a long, long time, he’s left with nothing at all to do for the next month or so. He’d tried to play off the broken wrist when he went back to Belgium to race again, but the team doctor was having none of it, the tough old bastard. (Poor old doc probably figured it was already enough of a liability to have Alex out on track.) Alex probably would’ve threatened to torch the whole garage if he wasn’t allowed to race, and while Harry wouldn’t have resorted to arson, it’s safe to say that he’s not happy with sitting the next few rounds out. There go his already-dim hopes of chasing another championship. 

“This is just--- bollocks. Honestly.” Harry glances down resentfully at his bandaged wrist. “It just feels so--- strange, not having anything to do with my time.”

​“So--- is he still pissed off, or do you think I can go and talk to him like a reasonable person?” Harry has often been accused of being too nice to be a racing driver, but today’s incident has, unsurprisingly, managed to get under his skin. Silverstone was his home race, and with all his family and friends watching from the grandstand, he and Alex had fought it out over the lead, only for both of them to crash into each other. To add insult to injury, Alex had come over to Harry’s car and started to shout at him in front of the cameras, so--- suffice it to say, Jon wasn’t happy about the utter embarrassment. “Jon just scolded me for a good, I dunno, ten minutes? I suspect he would’ve done the same to Alex if the fuckin’ idiot could understand a word he was saying.”

“HEY--- sorry, don’t take him too seriously. He can be such a twat sometimes.” He’s just noticed the interaction between Alex and this poor, hapless photographer, and the nice guy in Harry just feels compelled to intervene. “I’m not going to have you thrown out on your ear or anything like that.” He offers the stranger a small smile. “Look, I’m just the reserve driver, but--- if you want some pictures of the cars, for your trouble, I can arrange that for you.”

“​LOOK, I can assure you that I’m old enough to be in this bar--- yeah, I forgot my passport at the hotel but--- come on, man, this is ridiculous, I’m going to be thirty fuckin’ years old next month.” Harry’s pleas with the bouncer don’t seem to go so well, but the idea of taking a taxi all the way back to the hotel and returning is just bound to ruin his night. Come on, doesn’t being a racing driver count for anything these days? He looks around, in a moment of desperation, and grabs the shoulder of the next guy he can find. “Hey, look, this is weird, but the bouncer doesn’t believe that I’m old enough to be here--- can you vouch for me?” He’s not sure what a stranger’s word is going to do, but it’s better than nothing, right?

“HEY, look, mate--- you’ve got the wrong guy, I’m--- I’ve got nothing to do with this stuff---” He pleads his case, hands raised to show that he doesn’t mean any harm towards this rather agitated-looking stranger. “Seriously, I don’t know who you’re looking for, but it’s not--- it’s not me, I’m--- not involved in all of this... whatever...” Harry’s eyes widen in terror. “I’m sorry.”

“Need new strings on my guitar.” He mutters, not even looking up from the beat-up guitar that he’d gotten from the pawn shop a few weeks earlier. “Don’t get paid till Sunday, and these drink tickets don’t help my guitar sound any less shite.” Harry has gotten used to living paycheck to paycheck, and after all, these small gigs don’t exactly put food on the table. “It’s fucked, mate.”

“I used to race bikes, too. Fuckin’ loved motocross, but I absolutely destroyed this knee in an accident.” He’s had his fair share of scrapes in a Formula One car, sure, but only those who ride bikes understand how vulnerable the riders actually are in an accident. “Doctors said I’d be lucky to walk again, let alone race, but hey--- fuck the nonbelievers, huh?” He raises his beer glass with a grin.
