     St Catherine’s is an imposing church: a little bigger than most, the bricks are charcoal-grey and the building rises up in tall, thin spires. It brings in a small but dedicated batch of tourists a few times a week because it’s Gothic, or something, and people like buildings that are Gothic. Jules is on her way back from the store, momentarily struck by the sight of it, the ugliest thing for miles. She kind of loves it. As she’s heading up the steps, she spots a familiar cut-glass figure poking out a spot in the shadows and her face splits into a grin.

     “Well well well, look who finally showed up. It’s been a minute. I was starting to think you got lost.”
