he breathes out a soft chuckle, winding down from a burst of laughter following a joke they’d shared – something about the comically inefficient taco cabeza employee they’re watching from their table. eyes scan fleetingly over jade’s face, and his expression shifts a bit, fading from amused to something a little softer. a leg stretches out under the table to lightly nudge jade’s foot with his own.

             “ shut up. that was so fuckin’ corny. ”

it’s working, though.definitely working.

there’s a moment of quiet, of examining jade’s expression, almost as though gauging whether he’d heard wrong. she looks sincere, and oh, badger’s wanted to for so long. fingertips brush lightly against her cheek as his hand moves to cradle the back of her head. slowly, he leans in.

for a beat or two, he’s struck with a bit of self-consciousness – he probably tastes like cigarettes, it’s almost comical the way he has to dip his head and lean down to compensate for their differences in height, and it’s been so long since he’s kissed anyone that he’s sure he’s not exactly the most skillful – but his nerves fade almost instantly as their mouths meet. it’s short and sweet, over far too soon.

he savors the silence for a moment, and then his free hand gestures towards his front door.

           “ ——— you can come inside, if you want. ”
