Mariela understood better than a lot of people that tradition was easily consuming, the family she’d left behind and since been banished from had held the concept with an iron grip and not a single one of them could see their own unraveling on the horizon. “You’d think they’d try something different.” The never ending cycle of chaos and the false pretense of peace, was one she knew well. “Do you think they removed the, “same thing over and over, blah blah.. insanity,” option from the fortune cookies here?”

HISTORY
Ela was raised in a very quiet coven within the city of Acapulco.
The coven was one that rested most of their laurels on tradition and ancient magic rather than modernizing itself. Ritual and sacrifice were a huge pilar of their beliefs for a long time
And while they didn’t “use and abuse” her for her abilities, they certainly never made it easy to live with and the route they took in order to further train and teach her was through ways of manipulation rather than the art of control. Her head was.. a really really messy place to be for a long time. Most of her teenage years were spent with other people in her head, and it left her feeling pretty hollow and unsure of who she was.
Seeing what the coven elders were doing to her - and to other people, she ran away and crossed the borders into Guatemala where she was saved by hunters after a wayward attack on the village she was hiding in.
Immediately, she understood that she never should have left her coven the way she did but she also didn’t want to go back as she was. So - she asked the hunters who’d saved her life to take her back and to wait for her.
They were pretty confused but they did it for whatever reason... and upon returning to her coven, she asked her father to bless her with the hunters blessing and render her powers forfeit. It ensued in a huge argument, but eventually, after threatening to unalive herself and begging him to free her from the constant torment in her head... he and the rest of the coven, blessed her as a hunter.
And then banished her entirely.
She’s been back and forth, checking on the coven and getting involved in the hunting community as much as possible over the years since - she’s a regular on the GM, usually around for a year or so before she disappears again.
Now, she’s returning for good... after discovering that her coven was decimated
