Ellie liked River Heights just as anybody else. It was a quaint town with decent people and an air of mystery surrounding it. Perhaps if she had known more people, or hadn't been so keen on adventure that she wouldn't have followed Miss Drew all this way. But she did, and she had, and somehow they had ended up in a supposed "haunted house." 

She was accustomed to the STRANGE and UNUSUAL, but still something about being in the haunted house at midnight with only a few flashlights was enough to make her skin crawl. "Hey -- Hey Nance," Ellie said, her voice no higher than a whisper. "Explain to me again why we had to come here, right now, in the dead of night. Isn't this a matter for the police to handle."
