Her vision was blurry, clouded by nonsensical web-like patterns over the surface of her sight, and her head was aching more than it ever had before. She barely remembered what had happened, and somehow she felt heavy hearted, but she glanced over at Noah and tried hard to focus on his relaxed form beside her. His chest rose and fell with each of his easy breaths, his feathery lashes rested peacefully where they’d fluttered closed. The sight was so peaceful, and she felt a little angry when her vision threatened to falter once more, taking this tranquility from her.
She took a second to reflect on him, though; her Noah, who she’d marked long ago as an altruistic kindred spirit of sorts. It almost made her smile— almost. She feared for that sameness between them, for his sake, thinking— and knowing— it to be too easy for the helpful people of the world to turn into the used and the heartbroken.
Too busy thinking on that, and with her damned foggy eyes, she barely realised that Noah was looking at her. “You okay?” He asked lightly, head turned towards her, with one cheek just above the surface of his pillow. She blinked sheepishly in surprise.
“Yeah, I’m okay.” Neva wrinkled her nose, and sniffled once. She met his stare, only to watch his waver with sleepiness. Noah grinned crookedly, wrapped an arm around her, and pulled her closer with lazy playfulness— she knew it to be an attempt at casual comfort. Conceding, she gave in and scooted towards him, giving a soft snort in amusement.
He yawned. “Aw, Neva, don’ cry.”
