⟶ TASK NO.1 ⟵ GETTING TO KNOW YOU
ask and you shall receive a list of easily answered questions for a great first meeting, or last goodbye.
What were their best subject(s) in school? | Anything science (biology, physics, and chemistry) as well as math and choir.
Do they have any allergies? | Varian’s allergic to brussel sprouts and a few varieties of lettuce, particularly the purple one.
What is their opinion on Mystiques and Supernaturals? | Skeptical. Varian believes that everything has a logical explanation to it, and to think something is supernartural it just calls for someone smart enough to crack its code.
How they react to being flirted with? How do they flirt? | If not being entirely explicit about it, he’d probably wouldn’t notice and think the person is being very friendly at most. Though, if he were to notice, a lot of blushing and stuttering is part of his first response, along with activating his fight or flight response.
Do they prefer white, milk, or dark chocolate? | Dark chocolate with nuts
How are they with children? | Pretty chill. He likes the idea that they’re still young minds perfect for molding, as well as amazing targets and test subjects for his tame experiments. Free slime for everyone !
What’s one thing they’re really bad at? | Words. At school he struggled a lot with essays and any class involving literature, and now that he’s out in the real world, speaking his mind to other than his reflection in the mirror is nearly impossible as he can’t ever get the courage to articulate anything for good.
Are they religious? | No. He’s an atheist.
Which of the seven deadly sins do they most embody? Which virtue? | Pride
What’s their sense of humor like? | Anything that looks like could’ve been written by Michael Schur as well as existential humor with a dash of irreverence. Lastly, he does enjoy a lot the classic dad jokes, puns and history or pop culture reference.
How do you know when you’ve upset them? | He’ll get incredibly defensive, as someone who’s a tad used to being always right, Varian will just attack and try manipulate emotionally as best as he can.
What does their room look like? | There are no divisions in his apartment between the living room / office space and his room besides his longest table where he conducts most of his substancial experiments that can be done indoors. Right next to it, one can find some shoes out of place, messy blankets on top of his bed as Rudiger likes to snuggle on them, and journals on top of journals practically covering an entire wall next to his bed’s headboard.
Do they have a favorite color? | Yes, muted blue.
What do they usually eat for breakfast? | Toaster waffles cause they’re convenient or biscuits with gravy whenever he’s had time to prepare them after pulling an all nighter.
At what time of the day are they most productive/have the most energy? | Evening. Much like his pet Rudiger, Varian is a nocturnal being, that even during the day keeps his apartments blinds down so sunlight doesn’t bother him too much.
How do they handle money? | Pretty good at it. Has the habit of saving up whatever he doesn’t need for essentials (which too involve his experiments) but even so, he has a pretty well managed bank account, which allows him to comfortably to work for fun rather than a task of paying bill after bill.
When a craving kicks in what’s the first thing they go for in the kitchen? | Dark chocolate ice cream with chunks of almonds in it. It’s his favorite cause it tastes strongly and crunches a lot.
Are they patient? | Surprisingly, yes. Varian believes that patience is an art that only few master, but most put up with. Either way, he’s convinced he’s never in a rush unless it involves figuring out something he’s curious about.
What’s their favorite kind of weather? | Winter. With the snow falling and road blocking, he adores the idea of staying home all day, playing video games and getting cozy while watching movies with Rudiger, and all that behavior is always excusable when the weather such a snow day allows it.
If they were to attend Hogwarts which house would they be placed in? | Ravenclaw
What is their voice like? | Enjoy.
Do they feel like their astrological sign is accurate? | Passion runs deep and challenges are never enough for a Scorpio. Sounds like something Varian would say as well; though he doesn’t believe in astrology, only astronomy.
Which of the four elements do they feel the most connected to? | Fire
How do they believe they are perceived by others? | Given he’s used to being shut down or flat out ignored, Varian believes he’s simply an awkward john doe to most people’s eyes. Certainly someone that nobody would miss; although he wants to change that someday and prove the world he’s much more than just a wallflower.
What’s the easiest way to annoy them? | Tell him alchemy is magic.
Can they dance? | Nope, he got two left feet but he sure wouldn’t mind trying if the right person were to ask or want to dance.
What’s their personal style? What do they most often wear? | Here.
Are they affiliated with any political groups? | Considers himself a liberal and likes to speak out about injustices and whatnot often but can’t say any political group entirely convinces him to join their crowds.
What is their favorite hobby? | Skateboarding. When younger, Varian hung out much with the punk and alternative crowd at school, and doing tricks like Tony Hawk became one of his favorite things to do whenever he needed to chill for a while.
Where were they born? | Old Corona’s General Hospital
Do they express their thoughts or gratitude through words or actions? | Actions. Varian is a doer, and a do good for that matter, so he’s always likely to help out or go out of his way to make anyone he cares for smile.
What is one question they’ve always wanted an answer to? | How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? He always loses the count after getting distracted or used to the motion.
How do they sleep? | On their belly, hugging a pillow.
What’s their favorite game? | Board game – Unstable Unicorns. Video game – Breath of the Wild
Are they a very private person or, for the most part, an open book? | Private by default given that no one really asks, but if questioned casually, he’s willing to spill all the beans.
Have they ever had or currently have any pets? | Growing up, pets were a big no-no at the Amberden household as his dad could barely afford things for them both; but once that Varian found Rudiger and got a job, he became his greatest little furry friend.
Do they have any reoccurring nightmares and/or dreams? | Only one dream about his mother, and of her meeting him at night, explaining why she left, and yet that she still loves him. Sometimes it too turns into a nightmare and instead of coming back for him, she comes to get his dad and leave Varian all on his own for good.
Is there a music genre they prefer over all others? How about one they can’t stand? | Indie Pop / Rock
Have they ever played any sports? | Nope.
What things make them feel the most comfortable/relaxed? | Asking Google to play the soundtrack to some indie movie, laying on his bed and reading a book. Preferably something fictional and fantastical.
How intuitive are they? Can they read people easily or are they oblivious? | Depends in what he’s focusing on, really. When he’s interested on something in particular, finding the answer or whatnot might need for him to be perceptive, and so he is, but if he’s not curious about anything in particular, he’d not notice one thing.
What are their eating habits/typical diet? | Breakfast – Skipped or just has toaster waffles and some coffee with a lot of milk and mocha syrup. Lunch – Take out, always. Dinner – Take out or dinosaur chicken nuggets with honey mustard dipping sauce.
Do they have a favorite season? What about a favorite holiday? | Halloween ! It’s exciting to be someone else for a day and get paid with candy for it. Plus, anything scary is thrilling for him, even if he will sleep with a nightlight on after that.
Are they ruled by logic, emotion, or some combination thereof? | Logic, for the most part. But when wronged, emotion takes over.
What is their best quality? What about their greatest flaw? | His creativity. Varian always has a new idea, even for the silliest of topics. As for a flaw, that would be his ego. It’s hard to compete against that, or even trying to tell something he’s done is wrong.
How do they feel in regards to their sexuality and/or gender? | Considers himself a cis man, as he’s never questioned it before; but regarding his sexuality, he believes he’s a bisexual man, mostly interested in women.
What’s their most distinguishable/noticeable feature? | His big reddish nose, fluffy hair and bangs, and whenever visible, blue hair streak.
Do they have any particular speech patterns or mannerisms? | Varian is the type to talk a lot with his hands and likes to add flare to much of what he does. Also, it’s important to look at his lips and eyes whenever he is talking, as they tend to move and express even when he tries so bad to keep a straight face.
Can they speak more than one language? Do they have an accent? | No accent, but Varian can speak and read fluently English and Spanish, and can read most latin and celctic texts he’s encountered.
What’s their opinion on Porthaven, Maine? | Amazing brand new beginning, no doubt.
behold! the power of alchemy ! | ( *· visage .· ) for the marvelous transmutation of a cartoon character into a regular guy
okay, rudiger, so what do we know about them? | ( *· pets .· )
underneath the following little explanation, one might find a couple of history, fun facts and habits of rudiger, varian’s pet raccoon. keep in mind that it being a wild animal not usually considered a pet, it might seem a little weird what he does, but this little rascal is only up to no good when it comes to getting his way.
varian found ruddiger all alone as in his backyard one night after an experiment of his failed. apparently, his mother had abandoned him cause despite looking all night for her, the guy simply couldn’t find the poor guy’s family.
regardless of their similarities for being abandoned by their mothers, varian took in rudiger at first cause he just wanted to give the little guy a chance at life; and yet before he knew it, the raccoon became his favorite project so far.
despite being quite domesticated, as in being able to eat out of a bowl without making much of a mess, asking whenever needing to go to the bathroom and actually being able flush the toilet, rudiger resembles a cat most than other animals.
he’s always climbing onto things, and is a fan of getting onto tall shelves or even hide on the ceiling fan blades. this has gotten him a couple of falls but nothing severe.
there’s nothing rudiger loves more to snack on, than apples.
rudiger has the habit of not greeting strangers well, and although he’d never bite, he does tend to scratch anyone who seems dangerous to him or varian.
varian lets rudiger roam free in his apartment, and luckily for the guy, he is mostly active at night, just like him, with usually a new experiment being in the works, they both pull all nighters together all the time.
mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the nerdiest of them all ? | ( *· aesthetic .· )
necessary context for each picture so there’s a clearer understanding comes next so if you’d like to read a detailed description, go for it y’all.
hands: given how he’s often working with unstable essences and materials, it’s normal to see varian with bandages all over his fingers, if not his whole hands. somehow he’s managed to keep them despite many things exploding time and time again over the years but, well.
hair: similar to the series, he wears his hair relatively long by the bangs but the rest has changed so it fits more his mature stage, in which its shorter on the back. despite this, it’s still pretty fluffy and from time to time he’ll dye a streak of his hair muted blue.
style: for the most part, he’s laid back in what he wears as he has no idea what’s currently fashionable anymore. basic jeans, preferably darker or black are his go to, along with a pull over with muted or earthy tones are also a must. and of course, a shit ton of flannels.
shoes: given that he was never used to drive in his hometown, given how small it was, varian’s more the type to use his skateboard to get anywhere he needs to go, and there to match his need, are his very trusty vans that he wears practically on the daily, and if not, combat boots are an option too.
glasses: although his precious blue eyes are amazing and his eyesight ain’t that bad, varian spends a lot of time reading and fixing or tampering with tiny objects, so he can often be seen wearing his reading glasses just because. likewise, whenever he needs more of an enhanced image, he’ll pull out his steampunk visors made specifically for his use so he can tweak whatever comes up.
beard: it’s no secret that varian can barely grow a mustache and a beard, but he sure tries, considering he’s obsessed with not looking like a teenager anymore. these few hairs will take about a week to resemble the picture, so for the most part he’s clean shaven unless he’s working on something delicate that takes up most of his time.
