the only thing that had gotten alessandra through the last week was the thought of seeing her fiancée again. of course soldiers were told to prepare for injury, yet she’d still never thought it’d end up happening to her. the searing pain that had shot through her left leg when bullet entered was like nothing she’d ever felt and she certainly would never forget. the surgery had gone as well as it could on an army base. the nerve damage sustained meant she’d never be able to serve again, which almost destroyed it. the thing keeping her from breaking down? harper. the soldier currently sat atop of their bed clad in just her army green trousers and a tank top while her thumbs kneaded the skin around her wound, despite knowing she wouldn’t feel anything. harper would be home from work any minute and ally assumed that she’d been filled in on her health and subsequent return as she was transported home. she’d broken from her trance when she heard the front door open and then that familiar face was in her sight once again. “hey stranger.”
