OBSESSED with the idea that Michael didn't even have a name until Lucifer was created. After all, there was no need - Michael was an extension of his Father, made to serve. You don't usually name a sword when you first get it.
But then there was a second one, and suddenly there WAS a need to differentiate them. Michael was perplexed back then. A second him? But the other one was different, actually, alike him only in form but not in behaviour. I think that was the first time Michael started thinking of himself as a being, a sentient entity separate from his creator. Because this other being was certainly separate, and wasn't he like Michael, at least in concept?
And then their Father, seeing the necessity, blessed them both with names. Identities. For the first time, they had something that belonged to only themselves.
Lucifiel and Mikael.
Brothers, their Father said. Family. Be good to each other, He said. Love each other. And He looked vaguely nostalgic when He said it, but Michael did not yet understand what feelings were. But if his Father had tasked him with loving his brother, then he would do so.
Michael, now that he was Michael, did not know much about himself yet - still coming to terms with the fact that there was a 'self'. But he knew that he would obey his Father and be faithful in his duties.
He was a son and a brother now, and he would be the best son and brother his Father could ever conceive of.
