hey I really hate to be a buzzkill. hermaphrodite is a slur dude, like a real whole slur against intersex people. "bigenital" isn't very sexy but it is the accepted scientific term, sorry I don't have an alternative but please don't say hermaphrodite

Okay, to start off: thank you for telling me! I didn't know that and it's good to know.

And I did some research about it :)

Hermaphrodite is a slur but one that quite a few intersex people are trying to reclaim, the same as many other minorities do with their slurs.

Also, I'm not using hermaphrodite to describe real people. I'm using it to describe fictional characters who are hermaphrodites, not intersex.

Intersex people do not have both full functioning sets of genitalia. Meanwhile, my reader/characters do. Personally, I don't want to tag a reader/character as intersex when I'm not describing them correctly. Especially when it would be me using an actual real life term for such a "fantastical" concept.

Intersex people are incredibly varied, but they aren't hermaphrodites. And considering them one and the same in regards to real people is insulting. But that's not what I'm doing.

So far, I've only used intersex (alongside hermaphrodite) to describe alien genitalia set in an omegaverse drabble. And even then I use it loosely because they have both parts, they just switch them out like some animal species do.

Intersex is a real thing. Hermaphrodites aren't. Hence why I use it and will continue to use it to describe a reader with both a fully functioning vagina and penis.

Also, everyone knows what a hermaphrodite is. It's just easier to tag.
