I feel like Square is giving Sephiroth (and lately Angeal) the chance to experience that fun, goofy stuff that all the main cast get to go through in both the OG and especially Rebirth. We see the OG squad be around cute animals, ride chocobos, go to the Gold Saucer, have a vacation at Costa Del Sol, etc..
But in that timeline, Sephiroth is already long “dead” and obviously evil. And CC was the depressing calm before the storm for his character, so we’ve never seen him have “fun” until Ever Crisis. His line in First Soldier where he’s hanging with Team Glenn and he notes the feeling of experiencing fun is starting to come off like an meta quote that marked a turning point for his character.
Square is letting him have some silly happy times in these AUs lol.
