Admittedly George is kind of addicted to sweets, while he is not the greatest cook. He’d visit a local bakery unable to resist the urge to buy a few and then some.

Caramel Dumplings

These are my birthday dessert about every other year.

SAUCE: 3 cups boiling water 1 TBS butter 1 cup brown sugar 1 tsp vanilla 1/4 tsp salt

Mix, and bring to a boil in an oven-safe dish or tin.

BATTER: 1 cup sugar 1 1/2 cups flour 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 cup milk (you will probably need to add an extra tablespoon or two to get sufficiently soft/sticky batter) 1/4 tsp salt

The last time I made this, I added a little cinnamon and half a capful of butter flavouring, and it worked very well.

Drop spoonfuls of batter into the boiling sauce, and then bake at 350 F for 45 minutes. Serve with vanilla ice cream!
