Chapter Summary: Loki once again accustoms to his new life, this time at the one and only Avengers Tower.
Chapter Warnings: none :)
A/N: Hope you enjoy!
Loki has to admit, the Tower was a lot nicer than the last time he’d been there. He supposed that after the battle, some renovations were due. And most of the Avengers actually loved cats, it turned out.
They were also growing increasingly panicked, despite the fact they were trying to hide it. After all, someone with all that information just plucked from the streets? It was dangerous. Naturally they were worried for your safety too, Tony most of all, but the large dilemma wasn’t just that you’d gone missing, but all that information you’d been privy too. Well, for Loki it was just your safety, but the rest were sent into a tailspin because of the latter part of the matter.
Of course, it didn’t help they were on the lookout for Loki, thinking he’d captured you. They’d never find you if they didn’t explore other boulevards, the god knew. So, he resolved to nudge them in the right direction. He almost wanted to snicker at their hardheadedness, if only it wasn’t to his own detriment. And yours.
But now that they’ve done all the searching they can, gone back and forth for hours, started gaining access to cameras and having programs comb through the footage, Tony thought it time to turn attention back to the oddly intuitive cat. After all, more odd things than he could count happened in the last year, what was a cat with all the answers? Unfortunately for everyone involved, he didn’t have very many to give. Yet.
“Meow,” Mischief said, pawing at the desk he’d been told was yours. Tony lifted him up, and the cat began sniffing at the computer. There was one thing he’d figured out; those emails were important. He meowed again.
“The computer, huh. Ok, Jarvis, hack in,” Tony ordered.”
“It is encrypted with your own software, sir. Even we cannot get through it immediately. This will take a while.” The AI responded.
“Of course,” he sighed. “Guess I’m just too talented, Mischief. But I bet this has all been a lot for you, huh boy. Come on, I’ve got something to show you.”
Loki let Tony pick him up, carrying him to the elevator and through the halls. It was decked out with things Tony had sent someone to grab from your apartment, as well as top of the line pet furniture he’d quickly ordered. The cat padded over to his new bed, enjoying how plush it was when he laid down.
Now this is more like it. Well, except for the absence of my friend. He turned his head toward the window. I will find you soon, I promise.
The lead Avenger disappeared for a moment only to come back with two bowls; one full of food, one full of water. He sat down next to Mischief while he ate, petting his silky coat when he finished.
“You were with them the whole time, boy,” he said. “You’ve got to know something. Maybe a collar or a chip or something and then you could talk...”
Loki rolled his green eyes as the ever noble Captain America walked in. The super soldier eyed the scene with skepticism before speaking. “Did you really give the cat its own room? And you’re talking to it?”
“His own room. Yes. And am I talking to him? Right again, Capsicle.”
“Yes. Ok, I’m sorry.” he relented before pausing a beat. “Do you seriously believe he knows something?”
“I do.”
Cap sighed, taking a knee in front of the cat. “Alright. Well, boy, the apartment was littered with Loki’s fingerprints. Did you ever see him?”
Loki just fixed him with a blank stare, making him frustrated
“Seriously, Tony? I think you’re looking for something that’s not there. Those
‘answers’ from before were just coincidences.”
“You’re just not asking him correctly,” Tony insisted. “Okay Mischief, did you ever see Loki in the apartment?”
Loki shakes his head from side to side in a way that’s so clearly saying “kind of” as if he still has his hand to shake in that gesture. He wasn’t being dishonest, exactly. In his Aesir form, he hadn’t seen himself, not even in a mirror that he could recall, leaving the preening for when he was a feline. No, he only knew he was in the apartment as much as any of them knew they were in this room. Because they inhabited the bodies and minds of themselves in that physical place. But he had not seen himself, so the half truth and noncommittal answer stood. Though, he was the God of Lies, so he supposed he shouldn’t get caught up on the semantics of whether it is true or not. Besides, knowing all he did, he was aware the information didn’t really have any significance in the current case. Now he just had to show them that.
“Ok, so it’s limited, I admit. Maybe some tech could fix that. But see; he knows.”
Steve sighed again. “Fine, fine. Let’s just get some sleep now. Ok?”
Tony agreed for once, knowing that tomorrow would probably be a big day once your computer was hacked into. As they were walking out, he asked, “What’s your problem with cats anyway.”
Steve shrugged. “Just more of a dog person I guess.”
Then they closed the door and left, leaving Loki to transform back into his usual form. He flopped down on the couch Tony had put in his room.
“Well I’m not a fan of you either, Captain,” he said to himself, spitting the name. “But for my one and only friend? For them I’d do anything.” He glared at the closed door. “Even endure you.”
(if it’s not super obvious, I’m still getting used to this new program and my internet is simply not allowing me to upload higher quality pics I’m sorry about that)
