ahh rosalie, you’re right!! this was so cute. hope you like it, love
when harrison had asked you to come with for his brb travel trip to croatia, you had said yes without a second thought. you got to spend a week in a different country with your best friend, who would say no to that? three days into the trip, you had been conflicted; it was either the best or the worst trip of your life. your luggage had been lost, but harrison had gracefully let you borrow some of his hoodies and basketball shorts until it arrived the next day. that wasn’t really one of the factors making it possibly the worst trip ever, though. quite the opposite, in fact. because you had a valid excuse to wear his clothes, which you adored.
it was the fact that the feelings you had been suppressing for months were bubbling back to the surface. the two of you had spent the previous day exploring the city. harrison had made you genuinely laugh more times than you could count with both of your hands and it had been ages since you were in such a state of bliss. when you had complained about your feet aching, he had carried you around on his effortlessly, almost dropping you when you whispered a joke into his ear. the two of you had shared an ice cream at the cutest little café and you had tried your best to push the feelings away as he was feeding you the exotic flavored ice cream.
on the third day, the two of you were out eating dinner at a restaurant and harrison had caught you staring at him more than once. he didn’t say anything when he did and if it wasn’t for the slight sunburn on your cheeks, he probably would’ve caught you blushing too. after dinner, he had suggested a walk alongside the small canal to catch the last few minutes of the sunset. he had grabbed your hand in his so suddenly that you almost pulled away out of instict, but you relished the feeling as he dragged you along down to the water.
you were staring out at the water, trying to memorize the colors and the reflection of the beautiful sky in the water, when you felt his eyes on you. you turned slowly, giving him a small smile while tucking a flyaway piece of hair back behind your ear. his blue eyes looked amazing in the soft sunlight and you wanted to tell him, but swallowed the compliment immediately. was it really worth potentially ruining your friendship over?
“have you always been this beautiful?”
his question was innocent but abrupt. you felt your forehead crease as your eyebrows furrowed with confusion. “what do you mean?”
“i- you, uh, you look really beautiful right now and this makes me sound like a dick but i never really noticed.”
“oh.”
“no, fuck. that’s not- i didn’t mean it like that. you’ve always been beautiful but i’ve never really realized just how gorgeous you are. there’s- you’re effortlessly stunning.”
by the end of his rambling, you were already a flustered mess. harrison had complimented you before. he was your best friend, after all, and you weren’t a stranger to receiving a fair share of compliments from him. but they never like this; they were never this earnest, never this out of the blue. you wracked your brain for a suitable response but all you could think of was ‘thank you’, which didn’t seem quite right. you wanted to say more.
“you know, i was scared. when i asked you to come on this trip with me,” his confession sent a sudden ache through your chest. “i was scared it would ruin our friendship somehow because- fuck, i’ve loved you for a long time, y/n, and these past days has only made it harder for me to hide my feelings.”
“please just kiss me already,” you whispered, your mind only sure of one thing; he loved you.
harrison didn’t need much convincing. in the matter of a few seconds, his lips were against yours. he brought his hand to your face, his thumb caressing your cheek. the kiss was soft, yet needy. it was loving and passionate. it was the epitome of a kiss two best friends share after admitting their suppressed feelings. if it hadn’t been for the urge to acquire fresh air, you would have prolonged the kiss. a protesting whine escaped you as he pulled away and he chuckled breathlessly, resting his forehead against yours.
“this is really cliché,” he whispered softly. “but i think you might be my soulmate. ‘m sorry it took me so long to tell you, love.”
“better late than never, right?”
