Shapeshifter

Note from Celestia: Type of shapeshifter was not specified. So I'm just going with a general one and crossposting to varies kintypes that may be interested.

Shapeshifting abilites have been attributed to countless creatures across many cultures. The shapeshifting foxes of China, Japan, and Korea to the phooka of Celtic lore, Rakshasa of India, and the werewolves of medieval Germany are all varied examples of shapeshifter spanning cultures, countries, and time.

For this tea, I wanted a flavor experience that shifted as you drink. From the first taste, to the mouth, to the aftertaste, each phase is a new experience.

Numi Tea's Three Roots Tumeric tea is an adventure in flavors and spice, starting with a sharp sweetness, shifting to a spice, and ending with an aftertaste of licorice. While tumeric gets most of its popularity as the main spice in curry, it's also gaining attention as an herbal supplement for inflammation.

Red Fox/Forest

Red foxes are a hardy species that can be found all across America, Europe, and Asia (as well as invasively in Australia.) While largely seen as tricky carnivores, surprisingly red foxes have a varied diet that includes forest berries. That's where I first began looking.

Adagio Tea's Berry Blast is exactly what it sounds like, a big ole mix of berries including blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and forest berries as well as rose hips and hibiscus for a little tartness.

Minotaur

Two criteria? Isn't that strange. That's because there were two requests for this kintype!

I decided to follow the first requester for a starting point, looking at traditional or common teas found in the minotaur's home country, Greece and the island of Crete.

The Mediterranean area is the only area where plants of the genus Sideritis, otherwise known among other things as the ironwort, grow and are cultivated. Ironwort has been proven to be rich in antioxidents as well as having anti-inflammatory properties. Typically called Greek Mountain Tea, reviews claim that the taste is a mix between floral, citrus, and herbal.

There are several brands of Greek Mountain Tea but I just picked one from Greek food exporter Klio.

Semi-Aquatic Forest Dragonkin

I suppose this tea can also go the dinosaurkin route so I will tag it as such.

A forest-dwelling semi-aquatic dragon brings ideas of prehistoric reptiles that both ruled the land and the water, a more primal type of dragon.

I sought inspiration from prehistoric herbal tea using plants found near or in water. Only one stood out.

Horsetails have been around for over 100 million years and largely grow at the edges of ponds and rivers. While horsetail tea is hard to come by, it's slowly gaining traction for its skin, nail, and hair health benefits.

(Added warning: There are reports that horsetail tea is a diuretic, so drink with caution.)

Kirby Species (Kirby Video Game Series)

Criteria from requester: Sweet, fruity, no mint

According to my research into Kirbies, they seem to favor sweet fruits. A strawberry shortcake was a plot device and watermelons are a consistent health restorer across several games.

Adagio Tea’s Watermelon Cooler is a non-caffeinated herbal tea best served cold. It has a strong watermelon candy scent but a very sweet and clean finish to it. Watermelon flavoring and apples give it its sweetness while hibiscus and rose hips add a little bit of edge to this blend. A perfect tea not only for the adorable multi-colored puffballs we’ve come to know and love, but great for the summer months just around the corner.

Mint seems to be common additive for watermelon tea since it creates a watermelon mojito mocktail. Mint fans may want to try it out!

My kintype exculsively drinks blood as nourishment (like a mosquito, but it's not one) and i sometimes need a similiar taste to prevent nausea whenever the shift is very strong. Is there perhaps a type of tea that has a sour (or even metallic, but thats not neccessary) taste to it, or perhaps a type of lemon tea you'd recommend? Thank you in advance!

This is more tart than sour but it brews red; hibiscus and/or rose hip tea. This one has both mixed in. It’s a pretty big punch to the sour part of your tastebuds. Hibiscus is a really common blend ingredient in herbal teas so if this doesn’t suit your fancy there’s a lot more blends out there that won’t be as face-punchy tart. Hope this helps!
