He’s shorter than Jack expected. If that’s him. It’s probably him, but there’s every chance it’s not, because that just seems like something that happens to people. Getting it wrong. How obvious would it be to get his phone out and check a photo? Too obvious, terrible if he’s caught and that is Ivan, can’t admit you briefly forgot what your date looked like. The word date clunks in his head like an anvil. He has to say something. Noncommittal and ambiguously heterosexual, just in case. Is anyone else sweating in this Starbucks?
