Kid AU: marco is a small child and bertholdt is taking care of him like a good mom/caretaker. Also jean is there.

oh my gosh thanks this is so cute. okay i got this. marco is like five years old and he's literally the sweetest kid. he just needs someone to make sure he eats and stuff. bertholdt is like, gosh, seventeen or eighteen and he lives a few houses down from the bodt family.

bert is such. a good caretaker.

he's a little bit of a pushover but marco hardly tries to take advantage of his niceness. so he's all like, "no television until we have a snack first" and stuff when marco comes home from kindergarten and of course its only healthy stuff like apple slices y'know. they color together a lot and marco totally has that sweet 64 pack of crayolas.

jean is four years old so he's in day care but sometimes he comes over to play because mrs. bodt and mrs. kirschtein are really good friends. jean watches bert and marco color but he usually can't stay still for very long so he tromps off and says he wants juice and animal crackers and he cries a lot more than marco. marco can usually calm him down though, and bertholdt doesn't even need to step in.

levi / hanji / mike / irvin as parents

one tiny child, four very intense parents

levi hates doing diapers but hes really particular about it so he does most of the diapers anyway. hes also in charge of baths and he chides the baby when it grows up and starts inevitably getting into shenanigans and tearing down baby gates ( baby gate maria ). he doesn't really feel bad about discipline but he has a real soft spot for the baby and shows it in ways that no one was expecting.

he gives the baby a lot of snacks and spends a lot of quality time with them; stories and books.

hanji!! is chief of child education and they are so!!! particular about the DAYCARE that they go into. hanji understands the importance of not putting a ton of pressure on such a young child, but they work in ways to teach them things. a lot of french is spoken around the house. hanji takes naps with baby and sings to them and never does baby talk. "ah! what a strong grip - you truly are mike's child, aren't you?"

mike is so confused by baby at first, scared of this small human being that wails and demands constant attention. but he loves this child so much and there's one time that hanji hands it over "just needs to be rocked to sleep, is all!" so he's overly careful and its actually just a ploy from the other three to see how mike handles the baby on his own. he ends up talking to the baby and its very sweet and everyone listens from the other room and bites their fists because its so cute. "i wonder what you'll be like when you're older. i'm looking forward to that, big guy. ... soon you'll be walking and beating me up in no time, huh ..."

irvin. irvin is pretty much the best most caring ( but STERN WHEN HE NEEDS TO BE ) dad ever. i just see irvin embarrassing his kid a little on purpose when they're older and in grade school. he packs the lunches and makes sure that the other parents write notes. he remembers the dates and the recitals and games. he's very understanding and very Cool and he bounces baby on his knee when they're a child and sings " hoppe hoppe, reiter " and brings it up when they're like seventeen. "do you remember that? hoppe hoppe reiter? wenn her fallt dann schreiter -" and they sing along, a little embarrassed.

hanji and levi in high school

hanji has such an intense thirst for knowledge but a problem with the education system - but not as much as levi does

they read and read and read and do their homework at the last minute and somehow pull off amazing essays that can be off topic

he skips class when the teachers piss him off and he's just sort of a punk with a lot of potential who would much rather get in fights with bigger kids and throw rocks off the over pass

hanji might even end up valedictorian of their class and everyone is sort of confused because hanji is very smart but theyre so eccentric

the speech they make for the graduating class is weird but oddly moving

hanji and levi and mike and irvin end up going to denny's and then drinking forties at the over pass they always hang out at

and throw rocks and talk about college and how much its gonna suck and how hanji only wants to go there because they will camp in the library

okay wow i'm not actually sure if this has been done yet before, but i think this is really important

its actually really perfect and it fits so well but i have current manga #spoilers in here sorta? so take care about that! also its sorta ... long.

i'm leaving it sort of vague region / team wise for now 'cause i haven't decided that

eren, mikasa and armin are all childhood friends from the same town. after their home town is pretty much annihilated by team rocket, they start their journey and pick their starters and have their adventure ( eren picks fire, mikasa picks water, armin picks grass ).

they meet a ton of others like jean and marco, the former of the two becoming eren's rival. marco follows jean around and tells him not to be such an ass hat. eren and jean are pretty evenly matched, but eren has such an intense drive about training and getting stronger that jean is like "wtf".

sasha and conny are two cutie pies who seem incompetent at first but they're actually pretty skilled. she sorta fucked off from her own town because she gets in a fight with her pokemon breeder father. conny is pretty much just seeking glory.

but eren's like, just starting out when he meets reiner and bertholdt and annie - three trainers who are around his age but they're incredibly strong and he p much gets pounded by them every time they meet up and battle. but they teach him technique and strategy in battling and he ends up learning a lot - but they're actually team rocket field soldiers who are sort of just looking for talented trainers (ooh drama bomb).

ymir is with krista, and ymir is a defected rocket soldier herself, who is p much just following krista because she's cute. ... or so she says. krista's family belongs of a cult devoted to arceus, but she's an illegitimate child who had to assume a different name. ymir was supposed to bring her to the boss, but she just said "fuck that noise".

and gosh, okay. scouting legion. levi is the current league champion, with auruo, petra, erd and gunter being the elite four. irvin was the former champion and he's levi's buddy and mentor. hanji is the professor of the region, and mike is her eccentric assistant; they all drop in to bother levi and the elite four a lot because they're all good friends.

i feel like before kankri devoted himself to the pursuit of social justice ( pre game, maybe ... gosh, 4 sweeps ) he was left feeling stuck without a purpose and he couldnt articulate it terribly well

he's much better at articulating his opinions and facts about the caste system and various injustices in beforean society than he is about his own feelings

perhaps when confronted with "how does that make you feel" he stutters and goes on a tirade to dance around the subject

his snobbiness towards friends and the consequent offense they take is not at all intended but he does mean to distance himself through his rhetoric subconsciously and seem untouchable

... but it fails when he gets grubsauce on his face
