Reading about the kids kicked off of that Spanish flight, with their camp counselor arrested, just for singing in Hebrew
and thinking about how singing Hebrew songs has been integral to my connection with Judaism
like really integral
and these past few weeks (months? years?) I’ve been trying to be okay, but honestly this is hitting me harder than some of the other stuff has
#like a core memory of mine was singing jewish songs with a brazilian girl at my summer camp#like her english was not great yet and my portuguese was (is) nonexistent#and we were from totally different places but we could connect bc we were both jewish and we could bond through hebrew songs we sang as ki#*kids#and now i’m in my shul’s choir with my musically-gifted rabbi who’s been my rabbi since i was in pre-k#plus my kindergarten hebrew teacher and the husband of my 1st grade hebrew teacher#among others who’ve known me since i was born#and i’ve been literally surrounded by jewish music my whole life#it’s a core part of my identity#and my heart is breaking now. again. for the millionth time.#ship makes a personal post#the jewish experience tag#antisemitism#100plustxt
