Day 13, Family: Koolkox

Dinorific’s mom, a yuki-onba that resides in Terror Mountain but travels to Neopia Central when the weather there gets cold enough. She regrets abandoning him but must constantly remind herself that she doesn’t have the means to give him the life he deserves. Despite this, she’s incredibly envious of Raquello and his ragtag “family” and hates that she’s forced to watch her son grow up from the sidelines. Dino doesn’t even know who she really is, she outwardly appears as a novelty ice cream vendor (in the middle of fucking WINTER) who goes by Ms. K because “Kool” is corny and “Kox” will incite TNT to murder me in my sleep.

She’s basically a spitting cobra that shoots icicles instead of venom. Her theme song is Conciliation.

Yuki-onbas/onnas are considered ghouls in my garbage Neopia canon, but rather than make a mess by physically eating victims they freeze them alive and drag them back to their lairs, where their life force is slowly digested.

Raquello nearly died but gained his stupid ice powers when this process was interrupted, but this occurred years before Dino was adopted by him

Being the son of a yuki-onba would make Dino a yukinko which, in Japanese folklore, are used as lures for unsuspecting travellers, who will attempt to help the mother and baby only to be devoured in the process. This is what tricked Raquello when they met years ago.

K is an example of a transitionary stage between facultative and sable ghouls, a transformation that she deeply fears will rob her of being able to see her son again. She’s at a point where normal food no longer provides nutrition, but eating more people only worsens her state despite making her more powerful.

To avoid becoming fully sable, she stopped eating humans. Slowly starving to death and will eventually disappear, but would rather die than become a sable ghoul and risk losing control and hurting her son and his loved ones.

On a side note, I finally started watching Tokyo Ghoul and the lyrics to the first season’s opening song suit her VERY well

All my OCs are just low-key fighting game/RPG characters which is why I’m so obsessed with weapons and stats for them, so K’s “weapon” is just a massive ice cobra (a more menacing version of her neopet form?)
