(note. Im very new and may not be a good advisor for archiving related stuff. this is just stuff I wanna share because I find it fun to document stuff)
first of all I love feeling like Im making a positive change in a space. this is GREAT at feeding my ego if your ego relies more on being a good contributor than attention.
it is a low energy activity for me, its something I do when I wanna do stuff but dont have the energy for games, art, etc. n its been rly helpful keeping me busy
I am. a hoarder. and I mean hoarder as in the disorder symptom not just "I have a lot of this X3 Im such a hoarder". I love collecting stuff I have even the smallest connection to and this applies to real life trinkets, game achievements/milestones (I love achievement hunting and trinket collecting in games), character designs and, even stuff I cannot physically have (cool but expensive char designs, outrageously expensive or doesnt ship to my country trinkets, etc.) I take screenshots and have dedicated folders for them for "inspo". and, decidedly, mogai/liom/qai identities. I made an archive for an alterhuman umbrella I love, and thus I love looking for and collecting stuff for it!
similar to the above, one of our other disorder symptom is the need to sort stuff. (we had to unlearn to do this with people and are still working on it), I have, mostly arbitrary categories in my head about every mogai n adjacent identity goes in. I dont like enforcing these onto people or their terms but I do like talking about them. the archive blog helps a lot with that urge to sort stuff AND share my sorting mechanics. plus, it has the extra benefit of helping people look for things they want :)
tumblr is. a buggy mess. and sometimes its such a chore to actually add all the terms to the drafts/queue, tag them appropriately, etc. because of it. on mobile if you scroll down enough on drafts or the queue any small action will get you right back to the top, sometimes it decides it doesnt know what tags are and gives you an error, etc. also it only lets you queue 1000 posts which for most users would be reasonable enough but. for archivists thats way too little
the second issue I dont know how to word, but Ill try. as soon as you start posting theres a feeling of responsibility that you have to keep up with everything. its worse if you have OCD or anxiety disorders. its not bad enough that you will stress you out a lot and often, but there have been times I was hanging out with the people I love only to distract myself with "oh my god did my queue run out while Im doing all this (it never has)"
while its not true I feel like for every term I archive 2 more gets made in its place, like a hydra. which, while yes I love adding them to the archive, it is slightly harrowing to think this is a duty which will never be finished.
thatssss about it? I think? doing all this what I mainly got was a lot of respect for (fellow?) archivists. thank you for all you do for the community. youre awesome
